Sharangovich and a 2023 1st for an unproven goalie? No thanks.

I'd rather simplify this to Fiala+#24 for #2. Wallstedt is probably the best goalie prospect in the world. What it would take to trade him is a conversation that Devils fans wouldn't want to hear.

That *unproven goalie* is the best goaltending prospect in the world.

There is absolutely no chance he's moved. Not even for that.

New Jersey fans we aren't trading Jesper wallstedt under any circumstances. It's ridiculous that you think we are adding wallstedt and our 1st round pick.

I remember when the wings traded up and I found it odd that Stevie Y picked Cossa. I'd loved to know what that man was thinking. Like he is definitely a brilliant guy when he constructs teams.

Unproven at the NHL level. He’s not better than Askarov. No sense in giving up a proven asset for someone who may not be any good when we’re not in a cap crunch

Every prospect scout and writer/analyst in the business currently disagrees with that assessment. Wallstedt currently ranks as the #1 goalie prospect across the board. It's more or less unanimous, at this point.

Both Wheeler and Pronman of the Athletic.

The Hockey Writers

EliteProspects

Dobberprospects

Bader

The list goes on and on.

Askarov is typically either #3 or #4 by current listings by those same publications. Spencer Knight is #2.

Regardless, Wallstedt has franchise potential and his considered floor is that of a NHL backup. He's about as sure of a thing as one can get when it comes to goaltending.

Yegor's a nice player. But Wallstedt's ceiling outstrips his by miles.

I don’t consider Knight a prospect- he played 32 games this past season. When did these guys release their rankings? Last I saw for Pronman and Wheeler, they had Askarov 1, Knight 2, and that was 8/21. Thanks for the heads up that I’m going by outdated info, I don’t want to look like a moron using outdated info

Why would you make that statement then with 8-21-21 rankings? There has been a whole season that has been played. And then contradict it by saying Knight has played 32 games this year so he isn't a prospect. Something doesn't pass the smell right here

Wheeler literally mentions it in his prospect pool rankings article he does every January-February. Minnesota ranked 3rd. Only the Kings and Sabers were considered to have better prospect pools.

"3. Jesper Wallstedt, G, 19 (Lulea HF)

Wallstedt’s the best goalie prospect on the planet for me. And that’s not meant as a slight to Iaroslav Askarov, or Sebastian Cossa, or even Devon Levi and Dustin Wolf (who belong in that group). He’s back to robotic levels this season after briefly showing signs that he might be human in the second half of last season. He’s a big 6-foot-3 (he fills the net for his size), plays sharp lines positionally, he holds those lines, he swallows the first shot so that he doesn’t have to make a ton of second saves, his movement is compact, he tracks through layers incredibly well to find pucks, and he reads opposing shooters beautifully so that he’s rarely beat cleanly. He’s got all of the makings of a No. 1 starter. If he can develop a little more quickness (he’s strong across the net and low-to-high on pushes, but I wouldn’t say his feet are super fast) he’ll be an elite goaltender in the league."

-------------------------

As for Pronman, Wallstedt was the first goaltender he listed during his annual best 23 and under in the NHL article back on Jan 12.

"47. Jesper Wallstedt, G, Minnesota

Nov. 14, 2002 | 6-foot-3 | 214 pounds

Drafted: No. 20 in 2021

Sept. 2021 Ranking: 73

Tier: Projected bubble top and middle of the lineup player or quality starting goaltender

Skating: Below NHL average
Hockey sense: High-end

Wallstedt is having a fantastic campaign in Sweden, and looks like the best goalie outside the NHL right now. His pure athletic tools never blow you away in terms of his quickness or size, but his sense and technical skills are outstanding. He always makes the right reads, has elite efficiency in his movements and knows how to position his body and stick to keep pucks out of the net."

This is the last time I saw goalie prospect rankings and haven’t seen any come out since. Obviously knight played in the league this year so I no longer consider him a prospect. Askarov and Wallstedt haven’t, so I consider them prospects and use the last rankings I saw to rank them. You’re making a mountain out of a mole hill- my opinion on goalie rankings is completely irrelevant

Since you have the Athletic, make sure you're following them. If you don't, already. You can always go back and read anything you miss that way, and new articles will show up in the *For You* section whenever posted. I'd also recommend using the Athletic's phone app if don't already too.
