I feel like it almost makes too much sense to actually happen. Maurice gets hired, and now wheeler hits DFO’s trade bait board. Would make total sense to see him head to FLA. Now does this work for FLA? I’m not sure. Maybe hornqvist coming back?

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing Hornqvist coming back, he's still pretty useful

How I see it is if there is no salary retained, then it will be to a team with a lot of cap with a good prospect or pick, or to a team like Florida with guys with big cap hits like Hornqvist. The most likely way to move him is with 50% retained. I could see

I dont see any reason why Edmonton would consider it. Neither player adds anything to Edmonton they don't already have.

And Wheeler is not just on the trade bait board, but he is #3 which makes me think that he will be moved.

I dont mind the Wheeler deal. Jets get value for Wheeler and retention
Plus Wheeler with Maurice might spark him

So i have a buddy who has a buddy (sounds dumb but true) who works with TNSE and is close to the locker room and he said Wheeler asked to be moved but to keep it on the DL

Wheeler owns a house or condo there too, if there was one good thing Maurice could do for the Jets its ask Panthers management to acquire the worst captain in the league!!

Not surprised. EF said after the TDL and in the past few weeks that many Jets have asked for a trade. The players I suspected to have asked for a trade are Scheif, Wheeler, Dillon, Schmidt, and possibly Helle.

I can see all of them asking except for helle especially after he came out and said he was happy to be in Winnipeg. Although that could be a smokescreen lol.

Yes it sounds dumb, but the city is a lot smaller than you’d think so I’m not surprised. Also it lines up from what I’ve heard from some people I know who have connections.

I will never underestimate the power of Maurice as a salesman... he got Zito to hire him.

Neither would I, plus it helps florida with their cap situation as well.

Florida has real Cap issues, I don't think they'd be in on 26, and I don't the Jets are looking to retain much of any salary. He has 106 points in his past 115 games, can play on any teams top PP, still contributes at 5 on 5, and is a leader (just not the right one anymore for Wpg) there should be teams that are interested in taking ALL of his salary.

I just burst out laughing. The guys good with words, so I mean I wouldn’t put it past him to get zito to pay for wheeler lol.

I’d agree, if wheeler wasn’t as old as he is and starting to be affected by injury.

I suggested maybe taking Hornqvist back to help with salary, but maybe there’s a bigger deal to be made with the panthers. It sounds crazy, but I wonder if wheeler and scheifele could be on the move together. Again doesn’t solve the cap part for florida, but something to think about.

Oilers are very interested in the cap space, and for all of his flaws, history tells us GM's will try again and again to make giants like Stanley into the next Chara.

Does Gudas have trade protection? I know Hornqvist does, anyway Gudas and Hornqvist for Wheeler would be a pretty even swap in terms of overall cap hit but Florida is on the hook for an extra year whereas Hornqvist and Gudas are both UFAs.

Gudas provides an element the Jets don't have enough of on the backend, if Chevy could move some other dmen out it might be a move worth considering, that is if Florida wanted Wheeler and those two from the Panthers would waive for Winnipeg obviously.

Is wheeler any good?? i've seen jets fans ****ting on him a lot but his stats have held up... plus he is getting old so declining play is a worry

He would be better in a reduced role, he still is pretty solid on the pp and his 5v5 offence shows flashes, but you could tell he gets gassed out and he shouldn't be playing 20+ minutes a night anymore like he has been

Most of the criticism are twofold: 1) how he (and Scheifele) treated Laine and 2) while his numbers remain good on a per game basis, they do not measure up to his cap hit.

Plus he was being overused. The guy really is a 3rd line winger who will give you solid 5v5 production and can be a PP threat. Not to mention he can play solidly defensively.

Wheeler would be a great addition for florida.
