The only way I see the Canucks trading down from 15th OA is if it's for a later 1st + 2nd or involves a useful roster player. The 3rd and 7th don't move the needle enough IMO.

Thats not how draft pick value works, they are given a rating and this is something gms use. Vancouver are most def moving down for quantity of picks

You're gonna offer a hell of a lot more if you want the Canucks to drop 11 spots

Arizona gave up a 2nd to move up 3 spots in 2019

You can list all day, similar trades to the one you posted and include the values based off of knowledgeable people who have created these charts but you will still get yahoo's saying you are wrong that the value is not enough. Look at what it took for Detroit to move up from 22nd to 14th. Yet fans on here seem to think that moving from 26th to 10th or 12th would cost more than just 33rd.

Red Wings

Traded • 2021 first round pick (#22-Wyatt Johnston) • 2021 second round pick (#47-Artem Grushnikov) • 2021 fifth round pick (#137-Jack Bar) to Stars for • 2021 first round pick (#14-Sebastian Cossa) on 2021-07-23

Countless draft pick value charts say im over paying for a 1st rounder in this draft. Arizona also overpayed by around the same amount. Difference would be if for my trade, they used the HAbs 3rd rounder instead of Anaheims

So fine based on these values you'd be okay with trading the Calgary 1st for a 3rd, a 6th, and a 7th?

In my estimation to move up to top 10-13 you could do it for just 26th + 33rd based on the Wings-Stars trade last draft day. Wings gave up 22nd + 47th + 137th for 14th.

Oh yeah? Did our GM tell you in person that he was going to get ripped off? Dropping 11 spots and only receiving a third and seventh? A seventh is worth literally nothing. A third is not enough. Give us a second and we consider

This model is incredibly flawed. By this logic, 4 seventh round picks is worth Calgary’s first round pick. Does that seem right to you?

I don't doubt that GM's and scouting teams have numerical ratings for pick values, but they also look at the likelihood of each of those picks becoming regular NHL'ers. On average, the top half of the 1st round is a very safe bet to find one, and the likelihood drops off exponentially after that as you descend the draft order. So I'm not saying a 3rd and 7th are valueless, but in order to drop in the 1st round any team will want more of a carrot than that.

Yeah I agree, it might have the same value but it isn't the same value wise (if that makes any sense LMAO). 33rd + a 5th or something similar would work though.

EDIT** Sorry, I forgot to include this but I was saying that 33rd + 5th might get you in the 26th pick range. Hope no one was confused by what I was saying lol.

Both draft charts I have say that dropping from #15 to #26 is worth two thirds equivalent to Anaheim's, which agrees with @Campabee's analysis above (comment #7). The alternative he suggests in comment #10 would require just a little bit more (like a fifth).

Dach proposal ist even open for discussion. We are rebuilding, none of those guys represent what we have publicly announced. The 2nd is nearly enough for Kirby Dach. He is our top player u23 so if you really wanted him it would need to be a severe overpay of assets/futures we would actively require.
