If Laine isn't signing 8 years in Columbus I doubt anyone else is paying him the amount he wanted that priced him out of there. If he can't get a 6+ year done with the kind of money Columbus is likely willing to pay him, I don't think he signs anywhere long term this year. I also think there would be some serious apprehensions associated with bringing another Foote into town too.

I don’t hate the idea of trading Laine for 2nd OA and a prospect, but I don’t see jarmo making that trade.

Adam Foote as captain requested/demanded a trade back to Colorado just before the TDL when the Blue Jackets were chasing a playoff spot in 2008. Fans are still pretty unhappy about that and feel he gave up and abandoned the team. He's on the same level as Jeff Carter for a lot of people.

At this point, I'm tired of this. Sure. Jackets accept. Seems like even if Laine does sign here, we'll still get five AGMs a day for him with the premise Columbus can't keep him.

Swap Foote for someone else, though. Mukhamadullin or Daws, preferably, but not quibbling. No Footes in Columbus.

It's a bit more than that - he forced his way out and had it preplanned to the point that he had a private jet ready to quickly whisk him to Colorado such that he played in an Avs game literally on the day of the trade.

This is a righteous war, and the removal of so foul a brood from the face of the earth is a service G-d will surely bless.

Was quite a while before my time following the CBJ. Kinda glad I missed out on having to experience both this and the Carter crap.

Oh, it was super-fun. I coped by putting together a "wanted poster" for the guy a year later:
