Ah yes the first team all star who is easily our best Penalty killer and winger needs to be traded. Marner haters are the worst Leafs fans...

Pointless to trade Marner imo. There's no better player on the market, everyone you could trade him right now is a straight L in terms of level.

His value is extremely high, but so is his cap hit. There probably is a way to use his value to their advantage which the OP hasn't done at all but trading him might be a reason for Matthews to leave.

Chances are they lose the Marner trade, and don't replace him in terms of both prominent playmaking ability and his defensive/pk abilities even if they try to get 2-3 players to replace him.

Matthews is a 40-45 goal guy without Marner.

He might have meant by Chicago, but at 1.25m why wouldn't they? Just because they move on from Kubalik and Strome potentially, doesn't mean they wouldn't qualify a less skilled but cheaper player

Matthews has always been a 40 goal guy even before the up tick in goals or having Marner on his line. So he doesn't need Marner, and Nylander and him have some chemistry as well. Even if he scores less which he might regardless, that would be the least of their worries.

The line 2 would probably have 0 chemistry.

Chicago isn't cap strapped though, if he was offered as the roster player in a real package for DeBrincat, I don't think they would be opposed to it.

People that make a trade like that don't watch leafs hockey. The coyotes would love Marner but a team rebuilding isn't giving up Chychrun and 3 first rounders plus a blue chip prospect.

I don't really watch Leafs hockey either, but yeah that trade don't really make sense for ARI's point of view, and neither it does from Toronto's either.

Marner is a top 5 forward in the league and maybe the best 2-way winger in the league

I disagree with that. He's elite, but not that good.

Marner might be top 20 but def not top 5... easily McDavid, Matthews, McKinnon, Draisaitl, Rantanen, Kaprizov, Barkov, Kucherov.. are all better
