I know WIN says no.....

yeah, my thought was just if Gaudreau walks, the trade would be a cheap option with not a lot of commitment until CGY can find a more suitable permanent replacement.

But there would definitely be better options out there.

You dont replace a player of Gaudreau's caliber with filler. Rather ride out Lucic then take a shot at Huberdeau or Pastrnak

Of course, but that's easier said than done. I highly doubt the Flames will be able to trade for a Pasta or Huberdeau type player. Only trade target would maybe be Fiala, but I doubt CGY would want to give up the assets for him. Other then that, in FA maybe pursuing Forsberg? lesser FAs in Burakovsky or Rakell?
The point I'm trying to make is if CGY misses on all those attempts, they might have no choice but to settle (short term) with filler players. That being said, they could still do way better than Hoffman and Byron.

Trade for them? They are 1 year from free agency, Calgary has 11.5M opening up next year in just Lucic and Monahan

Overpay?
Dvorak is a 3rd line C
Anderson is Middle 6 at best
The picks are mid to late
… and you think it’s an overpay?
