I think that's one hell of an overpay for Sergachev.

What would you offer?

I don't think I'd offer anything, honestly. We need quality LD, but there are much cheaper (lower quality) options on the market where we won't need to give up our 1st and top prospect.

Man Sergachev is only 23 and definitely a solid option for this team on the left side.

Agreed. I mean, he'll be 24 this week, but yes he's still young. I just don't think his ceiling is higher than Edvinsson's, so I wouldn't want to bet against Simon by trading him.

No way that's close to a fair deal. From the eye test perspective, Sergachev is a #3 Dman. From an analytics perspective, he's a #4-5 Dman that needs to be sheltered. He would demand a low-end 1st rounder, and maybe a mid-round pick (depending on the draft, either a 3rd or 4th). A trade for Sergachev isn't touching a high-end first-rounder, nor is it touching a top prospect.

I could see Steve offering both 2nd round picks in 2022 for Sergachev. I wouldn't, but that could be closer to a fair deal.

Insane overpay for a flawed top 4 guy tbh. Take out Edvinsson and it makes more sense

No. It's not fair. Swap the 2023 1st for a 2022 1st and Edvinsson for Johansson, Wallinder, Buium, or another prospect a little further down our prospect depth chart and I think we consider. A 23 year old LD that can play top pairing minutes well would be worth 1st and 2nd this year, plus a prospect, maybe even Zadina, just not Edvinsson.

Why should Detroit trade for and pay assets for an expensive LD with that prospect lineup we have?

We need two good VETERAN defenders as stop-gaps until the kids grow up. There's no need at all to go after star players on the position where we're absolutely stacked with top prospects.
