Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 21, 2022
Published: Jun. 22, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Key starting points for the reasoning on this outline:
- Might look as if the whole plan is depending on Gaudreau, but there are other options (Forsberg, Copp... etc.) - the main thing is that the Bruins must sign a UFA (and clear cap) to raise both overall value and raise competitiveness to lure Bergy and Krejci back.
- The Bruins have too many good players, and several signed long term, to likely go full rebuild.
- I really don´t see the B´s trading Pastrnak - they simply must be burnt from having messed up by shiping away too many star players over the last decades (Thornton, Sequin... etc.) and with a looming exit for Bergy and Marchy, they need to keep a face for the franchise.
- Bergy has too much hockey in himself and fighting spirit to quit (hell he´d probably play when he gets a bypass at 78). =)
- With the signing of a top free agent and the option to play with Hall and Lysell (speedy scorers), Krejci will return for another shot at the Cup.
-

Trades:
- Nosek is now surplus as they must play their youths more - yet he´s a productive player for a low pick (just picked Buffalo as it gives them depth and cap options).
- Smith to Ottawa infuses leadership to a youngish team on the rise, while the B´s need the pick and creates a roster spot for a youngster to bloom.
- Reilly to Montreal is more of a suggestion (to any team in need of depth on D, for a third or two forth round picks).
- DeBrusk for Puljujarvi seems like a deal that should have been made a long time ago - early on they seemed like equal value, then it leaned in Puljus favor, but how in DeBrusk´s favor - so the swap of picks is kinda arbitrary really.
- Gryz/Lauko for Olofsson is a trade I built off a recent trade rumour (Olofsson). Bruins might have to add, but Gryz is a valuable and gritty defender and Lauko has more talent than his production has shown - anyway, just assumed Buffalo needs a D over another LW / C / RW, looking at what they´ve got in their pipeline.

Sabres need RD far far more than they need LD so Grzelcyk may not be the best fit in terms of need.

You traded for Olofsson and then didn't even sign him or add him to the roster.

You also only have 10 million in cap space with an unsigned Olofsson and over 15 million on LTIR in Marchand and McAvoy, what do you do when they come off LTIR?

Edmonton won't take on more cap for a worse player. i mean the trade is realistic since holland is an idiot but its not at all fair for the oilers here, unless a D man like Gryz, Reilly is added with some retention and Barrie going the other way

Sabres are pretty set at LD, they need RD. Olofsson is worth much more than that

Wosh... went completely ahead of myself there, not signing in Olofsson - that´ll screw the cap for sure!!!

Need to roll back the Puljujarvi / DeBrusk trade and then trade the latter to "ie. Seattle" for two second rounders instead!?!)

Btw. What salary would you sign Olofsson for???

You had me until I saw Johnny Hockey. Don’t need another small forward. I mean he’s good but not that good IMHO.

Wish I had a better answer but I don’t.

Bruins need a Josh Anderson type of forward IMHO.

Okay, yah it´s been a split discussion of sorts lätely between size, grit and speed when it comes to forwards and the B´s haven´t found their balanced mix as of late.
