Following the precedent set by the David Backes trade, we'll take Gallagher at 40% retention and your 2022 second and Jayson Struble for Max Jones or Sam Steel. That way, you only have to pay Gallagher $13.6 million instead of $34 million over the balance of his contract.

The Devils have show interest and have been link to Cayden Primeau who is a great future goalie, he prove it on the AHL playoffs (go see his stats) with that you get two great DEF prospect in Norlinder and Mailloux (even if he has made some mistakes he is still a solid future top-4 D-man) with that you get Drouin who have not been the greatest over his years in MTL but could be really good in another enviromment like the NJ. Maybe MTL can retained some of his salary to make the trade more fare and with that you get a the 26th picks of the years where you can take someone like Nathan Gaucher who is a great power forward center that will help the team now with that you get another 2023 1st that can turn to be a shot at Connor Bedar who will be the next McDavid and you get a 2nd rounder in 2024 so sorry not sorry these asset are not a whole bunch of crap for the 2OA and Zacha

mtl fans are notoriously overly high on their own prospects. lets be honest, the value of the 2oa for the 26th pick and a .0001 extra chance to win the lottery (made up number because FL is a good team and the pick will suck, also i believe we are not lottery eligible due to new rules around winning the lottery) just is not worth it. the pick is worth a proven quantity. not a bunch of gambles. gambles are what your team needs at the start of a rebuild not what we need to finally climb out of one
