Jets are Screwed

Created by: tsyls
Team: 2022-23 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 22, 2022
Published: Jun. 22, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Jets have found themselves in the worst possible scenario.

There’s some clear issues, and some big changes on the horizon. The scheifele situation doesn’t seem to have been resolved as of yet. Dubois has indicated that he will test free agency in 2024. The team is exploring a wheeler trade. This is absolute worst case scenario and likely leads this team to a rebuild, expect to see everyone besides Ehlers and Connor on the block. Jets will have a busy draft day.

Also this could lead to trotz not being the coach who’s hired as he’s not likely going to join a rebuilding team.

Trades are just in here for the idea, value is definitely off on some.

Its kind of funny how Wheeler and Scheifele in a sense bullied Laine out of WPG even though he said he wanted to stay and traded him for PLD who basically has come out and said I dont want to be here long term

And now both those two guys could also be gone on top of PLD

Kind of a low blow set of events

It’s really quite a tragedy and could end up costing this franchise for many years to come.

The team did it to themselves allowing the dressing room issues to grow without stopping it.

No need for centers. Miller and 15 would be better offer and I don’t wanna do that either. Both players already 29 and due for deals soon

I figured that might be the case. Scheif could move to the wing if needed. I feel like he’d be incredible with Hughes. I just want to see an active draft day if there’s some gloom ahead for the team.

If he signs are 1 year deal, would he be a Free agent after that 1 year deal or the team having him have 2 years before he can become a Free Agent ?

If he signed a 1 year, he’d still be an RFA after the deal.

Honestly if they rebuilt , they can get great packages for Scheifele, Ehlers and Dubois

I know. I just don’t want to see Ehlers go. A guy who’s been happy here every step of the way.

But yeah, they could get some good returns. This is the year to tank.

I think Dubois and Boston could be a fit. It's obvious they're gonna retool sooner rather than later, but their window might be open for that 2 years he's open to sign. Maybe Bergeron is willing to play for those two years yet.

Oh totally. They just need to handle things right and make the right deals and pray they get lucky in the draft.

Moving Helly would be a mistake unless henindicates he won't be extending. Easier to draft a top C if they do end up rebuilding, there is no guarantee that they manage to develop an elite goalie and probably aren't going to attract ufas even if they had a team built up front.

If they can, they better drag him through a rebuild id they do go through with one, if not they better have a couple of potential replacements in their system.

Yeah it’s a lot harder to get that goalie. I just think with helle and his age it might be better to move on especially with how much they play him, not a sustainable pattern.

I feel like lysell would be the target from WPG. I get why he’s not on the table though. It’s definitely an intriguing option

I think Dubois just wants a shot at 9/10 neighborhood instead of 7/8 and dictate a shot at a contender and live anonymous in a southern state, la/Anaheim. This could be possibly a blessing if done right, but tough if the whole league coming to scoop, ehlers/Connor and everybody off elc probably available.
