How far off are these ideas?
And what are your thoughts on the players acquired?

Thanks for the feedback!
I get it’s impossible but how realistic are these moves in your opinion

Well I think the Miller trade there is a decent chance it happens. The thing is it's really hard to say what's realistic or not. This is definitely what they should do, persue Miller, get some new faces on the team. The issue is I'm concerned Hextall will play it too safe and just run it back. 100% though they should make more moves, take some risks, and have a retooled team next season.

I get your logic—but I think Vancouver will receive more competitive offers than that. If their ask is indeed for a contributing young roster player, a top prospect, and a top pick—I think this offer is only 1/3 (Marino). Poulin was getting scratched in the AHL last year and still hasn't seen NHL games despite being drafted in 2019—he doesn't move the needle as far as "top prospect" goes. And I suspect the Canucks think there is a team in the top-10 of this draft or the next draft that they can make a deal with.

Blackhawks might do this, but it depends on if they plan on moving any of the other big contracts (Toews, Kane, someone else?) if they'd be willing to retain on Johnson. If they did retain, they might want a 3rd instead of the 4th.

Here’s the thing on JT miller.

If the Canucks target a roster D-man, they need a defender that will push OEL down the lineup.

I like Marino a lot but he would still be 3rd on the Canucks depth chart on the back end.

Imo Pitt would have to heavily add to Marino for miller, probably add an additional pick and maybe a Kapanen.

Also you’d have to drop the picks from Van’s side.

I know he is a rental but he is also one of Vancouvers best players. He’s going to cost a lot especially with retention

Detroit declines, not fixing a hole on LD by creating one on RD.

You'd have to offer a lot more for Yzerman to give up on Hronek. Drop Heinen and the two 4ths and add Kapanen and Nylander and we can talk.

Otherwise we'd be happy to just offer a 3rd for Pettersson.

i'd gladly add kapanen and nylander to the trade as it stood lol... ngl i had that thought bc DET could give them playing time bc at this point they just need a fresh start....
like as far as dumping cap I guess i'd take a 3rd for pettersson but if I was trying to get assets from DET it would be hronek or zadina...

if the $ worked out would you want dumoulin as your new stay at home defensive LHD to push OEL down? like ik it sounds weird but a

marino, dumoulin, 1st round pick, prospect
for
miller
???
pit might eat some of dumo's $ or does Van have another contract to go the other way?
just spitballing rn

yeah that's very fair... but you never know what's gonna happen with GMJR... in PIT we learned as much...

Pettersson + Broz + Blomqvist + Nylander + Kapanen + 1st + 2nd in '23 for Hronek + Zadina would definitely be worth discussing.

You would need to remove the Canucks 3rd and 4th picks and probably add a 2nd from the pens - especially if you want retention. I think if Malkin and Letang were willing to sign at those salaries it probably already would have happened. I don't see Kapanen's salary being anywhere near that low. Not sure that's enough to get CHI to retain that much salary either.

But obviously this would be an amazing team.

Broz and blomqvist were our last 2 2nd round picks for reference but I’d def at least have that discussion from PITs side

all fair points…
But lowkey if kapanen won’t accept his QO or a minimal contract i don’t want to see him back…

I can't argue with that. It would actually be amazing if he accepted his QO - that would be a great value and an easy decision. I just assume since it's so low that he would never take it. I might make a team where he accepts his QO and see how much it helps. I would maybe offer him a 1 year prove it deal at like 1.5-2.0mil tops? If he says no try to package him somewhere.

but comparative to expectations he deserves to be scratched lol
comparative to production sure he should get 2M but i think pens management has to get through to him somehow... if he wants to play with Geno and get paid then he has to perform.... maybe cutting his paycheques by 70% will do that... idk
either that or send him to a dumpster fire like Arizona lol

Yeah I mean compared to expectations obviously last year was bad. But he outperformed the year before so it's tough to know what you're gonna get with him. I don't know how the whole thing works with QO's and arbitration. I don't want to get stuck paying him whatever arbitration says because it'll probably be too high - but if you can get him to take his QO or a low 1 year prove it deal it's probably worth it. His underlying numbers were actually better this past year than the year before. He had an uncharacteristically low S% which probably explains the dip in numbers, And going from playing with Malklin everyday to Carter and Erod being your most common centers.
