Way short on the Gibson deal. Even assuming that Niemela and the two draft picks is adequate compensation for him, you need to provide additional compensation for taking Mrazek off your hands and additional compensation for Comtois.

Correct. That'd be cap circumvention. If Nashville buys him out, no problem, but you can't buy out a player and immediately re-sign him.

Washington did something similar with Brooks Orpik, but traded him, Colorado bought him out, and then the Caps re-signed him.

That would be compliance buyouts, this is not. The cap is full of stupid little rules. This move can be done by the Leafs just like the Flames did with Stone.

If it was a compliance buyout then yes, that would be true. This is not since Myers has already cleared waivers.

Interesting. Love being wrong and learning new things...don't know how I missed that Stone buy out. The one thing to note is that the NHL had already said they won't honor the negative cap hit that would have technically resulted from Duncan Keith retiring (or buyout? I can't remember), so I can't imagine it'd happen here either. *If* you did actually get a negative cap hit, I'd have to imagine Nashville would be alllll over that hahaha.

That is what makes Myers buyout appealing for, I guess any team really, is you actually get a cap credit this year. But absolutely, everything with the Keith scenario, maybe this changes.

Take Comtois and Mrazek out and that's probably closer on Gibson deal.

Take Honka out of Nylander deal and Canes accept - I still think I'd prefer to do a Necas+ deal for Fiala and sign him long-term. I doubt Nylander would extend at a reasonable rate in CAR after his contract was up.

Like the Nylander deal for the Leafs.....even Necas straight straight up. Hate the Gibson trade. Leafs are better to buyout Mrzarek at 1m X 4 years and sign 5.25m than trade for 6.4m Miller. As result no way is Comtois worth Niemela, and 1st and 2nd round.
Why are Leafs fans so enamoured with Myers?
