Meh, depends on his reasoning for his "wanting to test free agency" comment, he could just want out of WPG.

It's still a huge waste of assets if you can just wait 2 seasons and sign him as a UFA.

Unlikely the Jets have any interest in that. PLD's cost as a pure rental is a 1st and a good prospect.

So adding a late first and a replacement level player wouldn't get two years of Dubois. The Jets would be better off just keeping him for two years and moving him at the TDL if they need to.

True but still way too much assets given to save a couple millions AAV.

I'd do that, can't see them getting a much better offer for PLD all things considered, is there any conditions on that Florida 1st?

No not at all, the guy sewered his value so can't see them getting any better than this. I get they don't need Romanov but he's a trade chip or one of the Jets many dmen becomes a trade chip.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if Florida regressed next year so who knows what happens with that 1st.

Oh, just with your other posts, you seemed really down. I thought the news took the wind out of your sails.

I just wouldn't panic and make a bad trade. They still have 2 years of control and this isn't much more than the Jets get for PLD as a pure rental.

we are still going to be bad , why give away assets for 2 possible years of him with us and us still being bad. We should wait until he is a ufa and then just throw our hat in the ring if we are close

No I'm just a realist.. lol.. Is what it is, I didn't like the acquisition of PLD to start with so him pulling this doesn't make me like that trade anymore.. 😆

Yeah but whats the point of keeping a guy around who's just another cancer? Also I'm a believer in don't risk an injury, if PLD got a serious injury in his UFA year and was worthless you'd get at best a 3rd round pick for his negotiating rights, its not worth the risk imo.

Yeah, that's right you were against PLD at the time of the trade.

Why is he a cancer? He was a big part of getting Connor 47 goals. I'd keep him around just for that. I think he's the new brand of hockey player. They see that there is a lot of money that can be made of you bet on yourself, so I can see more and more guys doing this. Put in their obligated time and then go for the money and choose what they want to play.

It's a slight risk, but how many times has an injury like that actually happened?

To me, 1 or 2 years of PLD and his return at that time is worth more than this trade. So, if play the odds instead of taking a meh offer.

Well I wasn't so much against PLD, I was very much against trading Laine(and Roslovic) though.

Well he clearly doesn't have much interest in being a Jet any longer than he needs to be, he may not be a cancer per se but its not something you want around the guys that do want to be a Jet and what does it say to young guys coming in when you have guys around who don't want to be there, just don't think it's good for team building. I don't have a problem with wanting to go to UfA but why jerk the team around, Trouba didn't even jerk the Jets around like that.

I get its unlikely but it's possible, I don't see why its worth the risk.

But they're going nowhere the next two years anyway so why hold on to PLD any longer?

I think it will depend on the offer. If it is something Chevy is looking for, then he makes the deal. If it is a marginal value deal, then he rides it out as long as he can.

Yup. This will turn into a hurry up and wait thing. Fans will be going nuts with lowball offers for PLD the next year or two and nothing will happen before next summer at the earliest in all likelihood.

Very likely, my point is I just don't think that's the best course of action.

I agree, it may not be the best thing to do. But we still don't know the whole story. It could be a negotiating tactic, he might be waiting to see who is coaching, see how the team does next year, or anything else. What seems like a forgone conclusion to us may be very different in reality.

So, unless there is an offer that knocks Chevy's socks off now. They'll likely ride it out as long as they can and see if the new coach and with any luck new success, changes his mind if he is set on the UFA route.
