1. He has 1 year left on his deal
2. The Caps have plenty of cap space with Backstrom on LTIR, so they don't need to pay to shed his salary
3. He's scored at a .43, .52, and .57 PPG pace the last three seasons with not a ton of PP time.
4. He can fill in at 2C for short periods of time, giving roster flexibility

Is he going to net a big haul? No. But the Caps aren't going to pay to offload his contract.

He is. Caps need to get rid of him, rather then look for value of something like 3rd rnd pick. They have some money going to LTIR, and they can attract significant FA with all that cap space.

The Caps are not going to be paying assets to move Eller when there's nearly $12M in space created by Hagelin and Backstrom on LTIR. Eller is still an effective player.

Yeah, he should be available for late round pick or future considerations
