Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 22, 2022
Published: Jun. 23, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
First domino to fall may be the CAT. If he goes, it could open the door for Kane and Toews to go.

This team is young and will be bad. Gives a very good chance of #1OA in 2023.

Doubt CBJ would have a 2022 first on the table for Murphy. Much like Miller, he's too old for their window and only guaranteed to give them 4 years.

Yes potentially but they do already hold #6OA this year and Murphy fits a need for them and fits the profile as a good partner for Werenski and at some stage have to start changing from using picks for futures to trying to win, I felt this was mutually beneficial though understand if you disagree.

Yep, that was my initial reaction upon completing it. We need some spark (bedard/Michkov/fantelli) and we are in for some pain if we lose Cat and Kane this off season.

Yeah would come down to negotiations and which Kyle gives in. My take is that Dubas wants that caps space, how long is his string and would he be prepared to part with that 2nd being so late down the track.....

While its true that using picks for more than futures is a good course eventually, they're in their 2nd year of having solid picks available to them. Many teams will take 3-5 years of draft capital before they start pushing for the playoffs. Jarmo is also on record that he will not trade 6 or 12 for anything less than a special player that can provide the Jackets with at least 10 years of play. I don't think Murphy fits that bill.

You don't think Kane is any good? is that the point your raising here?

The same Kane that the NHLPA voted as the best playmaker in the league.... The Kane that has good chemistry with NYR best player (Panerin).... The Kane who can improve any teams 5o5 (One of the key struggles NYR had in the TBL series)

The Kane who's won 3 cups and will give any team a better chance at a cup. Kane is still an elite player in this league, Kakko while he could be good, is unlikely to reach Kane levels and that late 1st when you have a deep pool is a risk worth taking IMO. If you still disagree thats fine but it certainly aint 2013, its heading into 2023 and Kane is still lighting it up

Very easy PASS from the Rangers on a Kane rental.

Kakko is only 21 and has tons of skill and potential. No one knows where his ceiling is but he has the potential to be a very good top 6 winger in the NHL for 10+ years. No way on earth would I trade him for a 1 year rental of any player. Kane is a first ballot hall of famer, and no disrespect to him, but having him for 1 year isn't worth that price.

I understand where your coming from, but I must ask. When does there come a point for NYR where they decide to pull the trigger and start moving some of these guys with 'potential' for proven winners?

Would Kane be more enticing with an extension? Obviously his price increases also.

Reason for me asking is because I see NYR as a landing spot for him if our GM moves CAT.

The Rangers were run by Glen Sather for many years and Rangers fans like myself watched him trade away high draft picks and young players every year for aging vets and rentals in order to try to "win now". He won squat for the Rangers. Drury appears to be different and more patient, and does not appear to be willing to trade away young, top end talent for short term gains. They are the 3rd youngest team and lost in 6 to TB in the ECF, so that's not anything to hang their heads over, and next year, they will be a better team because of it. There is no reason to give up young talent like Kakko for a 1 year rental, there are better ways to try to win a cup. Also, no way the Rangers can afford to give Kane an extension, so that's a non starter.

Wouldn't be prepared to give 50% retention making this move moot. Need to work the leverage somehow :P

Don't like the addition of Smith? Can be an alternative, he's just a guy I see most moved in NJD ACGM's.

We have other prospects. Need Ruzicka for our 4C next year. He's not anything special that Chicago should really push for

not a believer that a debrincat trade makes much sense for nj especially giving up a prospect with a similar ceiling in terms of being a scorer and the 2ovr. phenomenal player tho and you'd probably be able to squeeze more out of a team that wants to push themselves into cup contention rather than playoff contention

The upside of CAT is that its a sure thing, what we end up receiving or what most teams will offer will be the prospect of a player reaching that level. Its no easy feat and I understand being unwilling to part with those quality assets. Its how we feel about the potential of CAT being moved.

If he is to move, it should be for no less than a significant haul/overpay.

This. I wouldn't mind picking up Murphy with a deal like this, but Kekalainen almost certainly wouldn't go for it.
