Realistic Offseason - Few Changes

Created by: Ledge_And_Dairy

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 24, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I am assuming Lucic either retires or is traded here

Very possible Valimaki is traded and Mackey plays instead but overall I don't expect many changes this offseason.

Could see a few combinations of the bottom 9 working, outside of Backlund and Coleman being on the same line I think the whole thing is pretty interchangeable

I wonder if Flames will try and move Monahan this offseason to free up capspace.

Maybe, my guess is no. Him and Gaudreau are still really close friends and that could be a difference between keeping Johnny or not. I think he bounces back next year but still hard to tell until training camp

Your short 1.5 on Johnny Hockey (think Panarin contract) and Lucic niether retires or gets traded

I'm not sort at all on Gaudreau, Panarin only got 7 years and was overpaid on the UFA market in a non-flat cap.

Why can't Lucic be traded or retire?

Lucic is not going to retire wishful thinking though. Also, good luck trading him might have to add a 1st and 2nd to get rid of that contract.

It certainly won't cost a 1st to move Lucic but a 2nd is pretty standard. It is definitively possible he retires after his signing bonus

He nearly retired at the start of the 2020-21 season, his body is beat and he's won everything there is to win. It's not likely but certainly a possibility. He's owed next to nothing after July 1st, it's exactly the kind of contract teams looking to reach the cap floor are looking for.

Probalby pretty realistic for what this management has always done, nothing wrong with that. I think Valimaki is moved and I think Gudbranson gets a bit of a raise from what you have here, I have seen your argument for it I just think that 1.5 is too low.

Do you think that they bring Pelletier in on the 4th line? Especially with Ruzicka. With Monahan being a bit of an unknown, and I fully expect him to start next season as the 3C for the Flames I think they put him with Coleman, tough to break up that second line but Toffoli and Monahan don't work for the same reason Monahan and Tkachuk were never a thing, borderline slowest line in hockey. If we are working with the roster about I think you're looking at

I think if Guddy wants more than what he got this year we look elsewhere. There are options for the 3rd pair that are for PK'ing and are cheap.

The Pelletier situation is weird here. I see it similar to how Dube came in. May not even start on the team but I hope he makes it out of camp. Personally i would swap him and Dube on their respective lines. As I said in the description I think the 2nd through 4th line are very interchangeable.

The only thing i whole heartedly disagree with you here is separating 11 and 20. There synergy is spectacular.

I could totally see this though

Fair enough, I guess the lines all depend on who you see making that line click. Coleman and Backlund are great together but I think the pairing of Mangiapane and Backlund are more of a threat and work better. Strictly the eye test, either or is a good option really. This team has no problems in the middle 6 if Monahan half returns to form.

Im kinda banking on SM pulling a Tarasenko here. I genuinely do think the last 2 years can be written off to injuries but next year will make or break his career. For example Seguin came off a hip replacement surgery last summer and definitely took a step back. However I think if Monahan can perform at the level Seguin did or better he's fine at 6.3M for 1 year.

I really like Monahan as a hockey player and person and hopes he makes a full recovery from his operation.
