Johnson would be great to pair with Power next season for Buffalo. Only issue, would Johnson waive his no move to go to Buffalo? Doubtful at best.....

One EJ isn’t a cap dump. Two EJ isn’t waiving. Three COL is never moving their best forward prospect to move a guy that isn’t a cap dump. So COL doesn’t literally laughs and says have a good day.

Pretty sure you have to add about $2 million to the offer to Josh Manson for him to sign it.

Buffalo is a good team that should only get better. It’s not a bad spot for one year

No parts of that trade would suggest he is a cap dump

Really? You think the forward prospect COL took in the 1st round last year that shined in camp and is considered the Avs top prospect and dman for a 3rd pick doesn’t scream cap dump or rip off? You are gravely mistaken.

If Erik Johnson would waive for Buffalo this would be a great deal.
Oskar Olausson he was taken very late in the first round and may end up having a good AHL career, regardless his addition makes this trade exceptional for Buffalo.
Even if Johnson did not help Buffalo become a playoff team, at the TDL he would probably return much more than a third.
If Ben Chiarot could return Ty Smilanic, 2022 4th round pick and 2023 1st round pick, it is very plausible that EJ with 50% retention would as well.

Playing in a Stanley cup finals pretty much ensures that he is. GMs over pay for guys that have "been there".

Regardless, Manson is unrealistic to the Avs even at 4M because they have to look forward to next off season. They need cap space to give MacKinnon a new deal. Plus Comphre, Newhook, and Byram. The smart play is keep EJ this season and let his money come off the books next to use in re-signing guys.

So, no he isn’t and nobody is giving a stay at home dman that is 31 and hasn’t scored more 16pts since 17-18. I see you’re a Duck fan so we will discount that to being a big Manson fan. The ahh yes the Avs need cap space in 2 off seasons so they won’t sign certain guys this off season logic. If you want to be real simplistic about EJ’s $ goes to MacKinnon Byram and Newhook extensions get bridges if the cap doesn’t go up enough in conjunction with Compher’s expiring. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they moved Girard for a cost controlled slightly cheaper forward and re-signed Manson.

That's what I just said with respect to EJ's cap. The OP wants to trade EJ this season and use the money on Manson, meaning it won't be there the following season.

Moving Girard to keep Manson is a mistake. I'm not some Manson homer just because I'm a Ducks fan. I just know exactly what he is and what he'll give you having watched him in about 500 NHL games.

Also, I think you need to take a closer look at what guys like Alec Martinez and Jake Muzzin are getting paid if you don't think winning a cup gets a defenseman paid.

Yeah the op trade is complete nonsense.

Both Muzzin and Martinez are poster children for why Manson won’t get $5M, btheir teams want to get rid of their contracts. Both were also signed to those contracts pre-covid. I love Manson, what he brings to the table is valuable especially in the playoff and I want him back but not at $5M. That’s Girard money.

Speaking of Girard, the Avs have some tough choices to make going forward. But if they were able to get a quality young top 6 forward with some upside (I’ve seen decent packages that include Necas and Sharangovich) along with
Some kickers for Girard allowing Burakovsky to maybe walk you still have a top 5 of Makar, Toews, Byram, Manson and EJ which imo is a more complete top 5 then if you swapped Girard and Manson.

I agree with everything you are saying. The thing is both of us know that NHL GMs don't learn from the mistakes of their peers. All it takes is one GM to think Manson is the answer to their problems via free agency for nothing but money and boom... he's making 5+ AAV for some other team not Colorado.

Time will tell. Free agency is three weeks away and Manson will be locked up at the start of it by someone.

You’re a 100% right, especially with a couple of teams that need to get to the floor, but I am hoping Manson wants to stay in COL and have a reasonable demand.
