Josh Bailey plays on the Islanders’ 2nd line and is listed as a center on Hockey Reference you can have him

Wheeler isn't a center, he hasn't been for a couple years.

He also doesn't have positive value, at least at his full cap hit.

Faceoffs aren't really the biggest deal when it comes to being a center, but Wheeler has won a total of 7 in the past 115 games. Given that he'll be 36 this upcoming season, something tells me his days at C are probably behind him.

He’s not really a center. And you can also get him for nothing with no retention. Even with retention this might be too much

Wheeler isn’t a player a rebuilding team like the Wings trade for.

Lol totally get it just trying to clear the logjam we have for bottom forwards and get something of a placeholder for 2nd line C for a few years and get above cap floor.

So what’s an alternative?? How do we get a 2nd line C?

Too old. Only makes sense if you have an actual contender just missing that last piece and the cap space to take it on. This is not a contender, even with Forsberg. We need much better defense and goaltending than this to actually contend.

Options:
- Sign Trochek or Strome
- Sign Copp and try him back at center (even though he's been playing mostly wing the last couple years)
- Make a trade, but like... for someone good...
- Let Veleno or Suter win the job in camp

Blake Wheeler is a RW not a Center, He has a 5 team trade list. And yeah Detroit's not on it.
