      Detroit passes.

John Gibson gets a better return than that, And i even doubt he'd waive for Edmonton.

No reason for Edmonton to give up a 5th to move one year of Klefbom for practically nothing.

Yeah and they probably will, but he has not developed as expected in Detroit.

Why are the Canucks paying a 5th to unload Ferland's salary after Dallas only paid a 7th to unload Bishops contract which was richer?

Does the difference between a 5th and a 7th really matter that much

If someone pays more than that for Gibson they'd be taking quite the risk.

Please elaborate. Are you talking specific traits? He’s fine defensively, great skating, and only 22. So if your expectation of a 30th overall selection is top 6 then that’s not the norm.

With that return, I'd stick with Gibson rather than cast about for five years of goaltending.

I'd rather take my chances with Comtois, who has at least produced while healthy, than with Veleno, who hasn't shown anything at the NHL level. In fact, Comtois had better figures in the AHL, too. And he's 25 pounds heavier than Veleno and hits a lot more, too.

What I'm saying is that Veleno seemed to have fairly high expectations in the past. Up to this point, he has not met them but is by no means a bad and is young so obviously still has a chance to succeed in the future. Veleno played nearly a full season this year and scored just 15 points, while playing pretty poor minutes to be fair. All in all my argument for moving him is that he hasn't really met expectations up to this point in his career and may continue to get stuck down the depth chart in Detroit.

I think Comtois is currently a better player than Veleno too, but he is older and the Ducks have a lot of skilled prospects ready to come up. I figure that Comtois' struggles in Anaheim are not worth trying to fix while having prospects stuck below him in the AHL at the same time.

23 vs 22 is not a significant age difference. And Comtois' "struggles" have been due to injury; note his performance at the World Championship this spring. Veleno has simply failed to produce.
