Description
Trades come out of no where and here is something I would describe as a hockey trade.

Other than that I feel the Islanders just run it back. They have never made a real splash to get a star and I feel that is the same way this offseason.

  2. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Varlamov, Semyon
  2. 2022 1st round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
I am not sure where EDM stands on trading Broberg, he is probably untouchable, but here EDM moves Broberg for 13OA this year and Varly. I am aware Varly has a M-NTC, but EDM is probably better than whereever Lou can get max value.

For the Islanders they get someone I can see being Adam Pelech to pair with Noah Dobson and get a 2nd for Varly which is more ammo the deadline to make a move if there are in it.

I’d be shocked if EDM considered anything around this package honestly.. maybe a JP package could get done tho?

JP just doesn't do it, at least for me (assuming you mean Puljujarvi). Bailey gets heat he is around a 45-50 point player per season and that is probably what I am replacing. EDM can scoop one of the LHD that are projected to go around 13 or replace Broberg.

You are highly over estimating the value of 13OA and Varly. A 2023 for Varly is about what the Islanders should expect. Moving 13OA for a player on an ELC that can play now, that was just drafted 8OA, seems like a steal to me which is why I feel EDM doesn't do it.

Broberg probably shouldn’t have gone 8th and it’s questionable if he can play at all

Honestly think that's a really good looking offer. I think it's actually decently balanced very reasonable. That being said I'm fairly certain broberg is off limits. Moving him leaves a massive void in the system once Keith hangs up his skates.
Varlamov also did have Edmonton on no trade list according to some reports around deadline. Never know tho maybe waives in the summer when it's easier to relocate a family.

Trading a lottery pick for a guy who might be a bust is a terrible idea. That’s the kind of logic that led to the Griffin Reinheart trade lmao.

Bust? Who says broberg is even danger of becoming a bust? His development compares well to klefbom who was a terrific underrated defenseman... also this isn't a 1-1.
Pretty darn vague comparison very different players very different deal very different situation both teams looking to accomplish with it.

Klefbom was never terrific lol. Top four guy sure… but this trade proposal is awful. U don’t trade a lottery pick for a former lottery pick who hasn’t worked out.

You would take this deal and run if u ran the oilers. Idea you could fetch a lottery pick and Varly for Broberg and a second is ridiculous. Idk why anyone would propose this tbh. We shouldn’t even have to debate it lmao.

First off I did say it's a good offer not that I'd personally accept it from oilers side did make mention broberg is off limits.
Second its not a lottery pick after the draft lottery its not like its suddenly going to become a higher selection worth more or less.
Does the offer itself match both teams current needs?
Absolutely it does very well again doesn't mean it gets accepted.

Broberg hasn't worked out? He's progressed as well as anyone was hoping for his development is pretty on path zero issues with him. I never once said I'd accept the deal I said it's a solid offer but broberg is very important to Edmonton's organization.

Broberg is widely regarded as a guy who Edmonton reached for. He’s ok but nobody would trade a top 16 pick for him rn.

My buddy is an oilers fan even tho he lives in Ny and he’s much more luke warm on Broberg than u r. Maybe that’s just his opinion but I’ve never seen anyone value him that highly

People tend to become more luke warm when it takes longer for the prospect to become an everyday player in the NHL. That's understandable to some degree but this is a Holland run organization should be expected the process is slower than what see of most other gms. His skating and size compares well to nurse and what he's done since being drafted follows klefbom development path almost mirrors it. If finding strong comparable to those two I think he's in very good company. I personally don't see any concerning traits that might hold him back.

I’m not saying he can’t be a top four guy. Just saying he wasn’t worth his Draft slot at the time and wouldn’t be worth a comparable pick today.

It’s more about the fact his overall skill set doesn’t scream big upside the way some guys who went after him do
