Description
I need to do more research on some of the trade values/resignings, but I could see any of these players moved this offseason with Hart being the least likely.

In this scenario Tavares should still be taking faceoffs 100% one of the best face off guys in the nhl

Good to know I will find a different place to send him next time. He is very unimportant to this so i took very little time on that one.

I figured the devils are an interesting enough roster in a great city with the cap space.

I don't think Marner even remembers how to play center and he's not a great faceoff man. There is no significant benefit in moving Tavares to the wing. A boost to his personal offensive stats does not trump his value in the circle.

Spezza's contributions to first possession off faceoffs will likely be missed. No need to add Tavares to the list.

Makes no sense to move JT away from center lol.

JT would still take faceoffs like JT Miller does for Petersson. Marner at this point is the superior defensmen and can skate with other top centers which Tavares failed to do last year. It worked for Messier and Draisaitl

Agreed. The group advocating for it seem to believe since Tavares is "slowing down" putting him on the wing should help his production. Basically they want him to get more points so he can be "worth" his contract.

There's no guarantee that Marner remembers how to play center positionally. Nylander struggled to do it when he had to replace Tavares. Would be silly to play with that since it's going to lead to mistakes. So, it probably wouldn't be like Miller and Pettersen.

Tavares can work on getting his skating up to par during the offseason, or they get a proper centerman to replace him. Ovechkin slimmed down the offseason before he won the cup and him came back looking faster. Maybe Tavares can do the same.

I wouldn't move him to the wing if the Leafs didn't have a potential selke level forward. This is more about Marner than Tavares.

Fair enough, but I don't think they need to move Tavares to the wing for that, putting Marner on his wing is probably the better option. Having Matthews and Marner on the same line from that perspective isn't great.

Nylander is under utilized in Tor, and it's because he takes nights off (and that seemed to affect Matthews when they played together). Hopefully, he's learning though, and perhaps he can be played with Bunting and Matthews.

I agree with you about splitting up Marner and Matthews. They have all the pieces to make a great top 6 but need to find a way to make it work next year. I would try it both ways and go with whichever works best.

It might be worth trying to run back last years lines and try fixing the Tavares and Nylander line, maybe try Robertson with them again. I liked Kampf-Nylander on line three but unless they are running 3 lines I don't think that would be sustainable in terms of getting Nylander enough minutes without juggling lines a ton.

Knies won't be available until late in the season and who knows where he would best slot in anyways.

Ha, ha, no, we're not trading you our #2 RD with two years' term for an older, more expensive third-line rental.

If Tavares plays on the wing it won't be on his wrong side. imo
