Description
I think Hextall should think about the leadership after Sid if Sid retires when his contract expires. Letang and Rust could be apart of that leadership core. Not to mention Hextall had signed Rust to a 6 year deal.
1st line need no fixing
2nd line could have some good potential. Heinen was a good 5on5 goal scorer and given more minutes with both Geno and Rakell could create some good results. Also Geno is at full health going in to season and could return to his good ole form from two seasons ago.
Third line would probably be most risky to run with but could turn up some good results as well. Zucker can be pretty effective but his injuries prevents him from obviously playing but from also staying a consistent producer. Nylander I believe is still a guy with much untapped potential and could become a little bit of a late bloomer.
4th line could see some younger players depending on who cracks the lineup full time between Hallander, Zohorna, O’Connor, or even someone like Bjorkqvist.
The defence pairings I feel should be pretty explanatory
Goaltending should be pretty explanatory as well.

So the plan is.

Replace Pettersson with POJ.

Rodrigues and Kapanen with some combination of Zohorna/DOC/Nylander/Bjorkvist.

Bank on Zucker's health.

And bank on Heinen repeating his production from last year.

This is exactly what you titled it. Risky. I don't hate it actually...

I think POJ could do what Pettersson does, but I REALLY think we should move Dumo instead.

Im hopeful Heinen could be solid again and I like the price tag for him. To me its not a stretch to think he could repeat what he did last year if you give him 82 games with Geno and Rakell/Rust instead of a mishap of random linemates like last year.

I REALLY think Zohorna needs to see NHL time. I actually like him better than DOC. I think its realistic to think 2 of Poulin, Zohorna, DOC, Nylander, Hallander, Bjorkvist, or hell even Legare could be solid bottom 6 players. You only need 2 of them to hit right.

The thing that REALLY scares me here is Zucker. I do not think his health will hold up. I am not willing to bank on it. I'd rather trade him. Spend his 5.5 mil tag on a better 2nd line LW, and then move Heinen to the 3rd line. Other than that. I actually really like this roster. Its risky but I honestly believe in it, I think its realistic too..

I think it is realistic as well. Could be risky but if Sid doesn’t get injured in a big point of winning in a playoff series, we should be fine. I feel it could possibly be risky because running it back with a team that blew a 3-1 lead sounds like it makes no sense but it feels different with this team. It’s hard not to make excuses but when you got your star player, another top 6 winger, your nhl goalies, and a shut down defencemen out with injuries. It can be hard to win a series. So I’m banking on the health of the line up which really makes it risky

I’d want just a little bit of an extra piece coming back. No one seems to value Woo

Like I said, the only thing I'd change is I would dish Zucker for whatever capital I can get, and then use that 5.5 mil to either spend on ONE top 6 winger, or two middle 6 guys to really flesh out the lineup. Hell. If your comfortable with Heinen as your 2nd line LW you could even use Zucks 5.5 mil to get TWO proven third liners in FA for say 3.5 mil and 2mil respectively. Then you only need ONE of those 5-6 yougn guys I mentioned to "hit". It's a little safer option in my opinion than banking on Zuckers health for what, the third season in a row now? I just feel like Zucker is the same every year. WHEN healthy he's extremely noticeable and dare I say good, but then you look at the production and your like "what? How?" cause his production is low despite passing the eye test. Then you factor in that he's always hurt its like. Ughhhh. For a team that needs cap relief badly, he's my number one option, which sucks cause he's actually a good player.

That being said. Like I said. I can see this as an extremely realistic offseason for us. And i wouldn't be mad at all with it.

He definitely is a good player still. His injuries prevents him from remaining a consistent guy. Because of the injuries I sort of doubt any team will take him without Pittsburgh sending a sweetener the other teams way. Considering the history of how cap dumps have been with cap hits like Zucker would cost the team making the dump at least a 2nd

See I look at it like this. He's a very capable middle 6 forward who can sometimes play up to a top 6 forward, with ONE year left on his contract.

Yes he's injury prone, but I think the one year left makes him much more moveable than people are making it out to seem. A team in desperate need of middle 6 players who also has cap space would likely be willing to gamble on Zucker's injury concerns, especially considering its only one year. Will he fetch some huge return? No. But I just dont think you'd need to pay someone to take him off your hands. He's still very effective when playing. A team with no cap space concerns could take him no problem.

I could see us getting a 5th for him straight across, a dumb team would probably even give us a 4th...
