Necessary cap maneuvers

Created by: robrob10
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 25, 2022
Published: Jun. 25, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
By trading Fiala and Dumba. It sets the Wild up pretty decent for the next 2 years. The goaltending will be an issue in 23-24. But otherwise these two trades if feasible, give the Wild a competetive team. Maybe light at C, especially if Rossi doesn't develope.

I could see that Vancouver trade. Some Wild fans might complain, but I think it makes sense for both teams

Holtz is probably the best prospect you available, who is that close to NHL Ready too (purely going off memory). Not sure there’s a Better deal out there, unless the Wild want to pay more or another team gets desperate for Fiala.

NJ should make this deal every single time though.

Nobody signed for 2023-24. Wallstedt is further away than that.

I like this but still not convinced Guerin will trade Dumba which sucks but I get it he is a huge team guy. Garland would be dope.

I bet VAN does it, especially getting their 2nd back. Could also see adding maybe a 2023 4th and adding Schenn to the trade.

Really I thought he’d have been over either that year or 24-25.

Not true.

Professional scouts disagree with that assessment. They think he's a lot closer to NHL ready than that. This is the best goalie prospect in the world right now you're talking about.

Wallstedt is going to be playing in the AHL next year. It wouldn't be unreasonable to expect him to be pushing for a roster spot, even if it's as a backup, by 23-24. This is a kid who has been playing against grown men since he was 17 in the SHL, and succeeding.

The only reason he'll be playing for Iowa next year is so he can get accustomed to North American ice and game speed. That's it.

He's much farther along in his development as a goaltender at a younger age than your average goaltending prospect. He's not someone who's going to take until he's 27 to see NHL ice.

He's signed his ELC and is expected to play for Iowa next season. He's already coming over.

I think the trade makes sense but also straps the Wild for cap in the next few seasons where they have to resign Boldy, which could get hefty if he has a great year which Garland would help him have. I would like to see the team make a trade like this to stay competitive but it might be smarter to get prospects/picks for Dumba. If Guerin can make this trade work without hurting the future, I am interested.

Yes the same way Miller will be an UFA. Dumba would still have value at the TDL

Thank you.

That type of comment never makes sense to me. They still have value.

I feel like 4 more years of Garland is the way to go. I think Miller will fetch us enough value

No need for Garland. Holtz or Rossi can fill that 3W spot next year for much cheaper.

Middleton/Spurgeon is decent a middle pair, but not close to being a top pair.

That’s a fair point. While I wouldn’t do this deal, I think a Garland for a young RHD prospect would be a good deal

Garland is also a much better hockey player than Dumba

I'd say no to the Canucks trade. Dumba seems like a risk to me. He is a UFA at the end of next season and is older. Ideally, the Canucks want someone younger than him

According to your statement, it Miller is worth noting because same thing applies to him as being 30 and rental
