The leafs arnt giving up that much for a 6+ million dollar 904 goalie

Honestly I think the trade is not the Leafs giving up too much, but the high chance this trade goes wrong because the goalie is not elite buries this them. Often the best trades are the ones you don't make.

SO glad to see that Toronto doesn't want to make this deal!

Kerfoot is on the last year of his contract, so he's worth less to the Maple Leafs than he is to an acquiring team due to their cap situation. Therefore, this deal is essentially Sandin and #25 for Gibson and #53. No, thanks.

It's not a bad trade for the Leafs, but I don't see Dubas trading Sandin or even the 1st this year. There are a lot of doubts about Gibson regaining his status as an elite starting goalie. Maybe a less developed prospect and next year's first could get it done.

It is an atrocious trade for the leafs. One of the highest prices a team has paid in the last 30 years for a player who hasn't been good for 3. Any gm willing to make that should find a different profession
