The difference between Nylander and Garland is closer to a 2nd rounder, not a 1st

Nylander has a career 0.2 pts/game on Garland and like 0.07 on JT Miller. Last year Miller had 19 pts more than Nylander, and Nylander had 28 pts more than Garland. Nylander and Garland are 26 and Miller is 29.

Either Miller isn't worth much or Nylander is worth a lot more than Garland.

The value difference between Miller and Nylander isn't that big either, so it's the former

Nylander is the better offensive player from the 3 as per their numbers (the career G/game favor him as well) and has the highest ceiling, so he's the most valuable of the 3 imo.

The trade doesn't make much sense for Toronto and less so for Vancouver

The Chi trade as well.

Miller is currently the more complete player, so I'd say his value is the highest of the 3 right now

He is but he has 3 years on Nylander, who I don't really expect him to be a complete player (in terms of offense and defence) but offensively he can score and make plays, and I expect him to take it to another level, and I hope that is in Toronto. I do think he would benefit a lot though if he wasn't 4th wheel.

I don't think age difference tips the scales by that much in this context to be honest

It doesn't necessarily but a lot of Miller's value is going to come off his production last year in addition to him being a complete player. Otherwise he would just be considered a solid 5-6m guy.

The trouble with Nylander is he a UFA in two years. Vancouver shouldn't be giving away 1st round picks (and more) for him.

If Miller can only command 5-6M on his next contract, the Canucks without a doubt will just re-sign him even if he's just a 50-60 point player

If nobody wants to give him the contract extension he wants this summer, he might have to just play out next season and hope he can replicate what he accomplished in his career year

Yeah maybe. Vancouver probably needs to secure Boeser, Miller and Horvat in the 6.5-7.5 region if they are to lock Pettersen, Hughes, and Demko too. Ofc at some point one of them likely has to go. To sign Podolzkin and Kuzmenko (on a longer extension-guessing he signs a bridge deal next year if things go well).

That's why Miller is probably the odd man out

Yeah, for sure. If they can bully Boeser into signing for less than his QO for 5 years or so, and move out Dickinson, Garland, Pearson, and Myers/OEL (16.85m+), and replace them with players that are worth ~half. They might have a chance to keep an extra guy. The chances though of them making that many moves is unrealistic.

They're not going to bully Boeser, not worth straining that relationship. Myers will be easy to move

If you want Chicago to retain on the Kane and Toews contracts, and take on bad contracts you're going to need to add Niemela and Knies at least, for them to even consider that.

Is Murray's contract a mistake 6.25 million, thought you had him at 2.25 million. Still would be over the cap.
