that goaltending is just asking for trouble, and tyler johnson's contract is even worse than mrazeks, even retained

Might as well just keep Mrazek and get one of Georgiev or Murray. If TJ is only capable of playing on the 4th line for the Leafs, it wouldn't really be worth having him. You might be worried about Mrazek getting injured again, but the Leafs could then call up Kallgren or Woll or even sign Mr Hobby Baker, and put Mrazek on LTIR.

My line of thinking is that Matt Murray is a good 1B to have, and Georgiev has shown flashes of brilliance and could easily be a good #1 and will be cheap.
Tbh I was thinking of adding something from Chicago's end as well as retaining 50% of the salary, but I assumed that Blackhawks fans would say its lopsided.

yeah, if you're gonna gamble on goalies and not clear any cap space (the entire reason to move mrazek) then just keep mrazek. Paying a 4th liner to be terrible and having much worse goaltending is a bad way to try and help the leafs

Murray hasnt been a good 1B in longer than Mrazek has. Georgiev has show longer flashes of being an AHL goalie, you dont gamble on two massive massive question marks when you are trying to compete.
And Mrazek for johnson does nothing for the leafs since they are only moving mrazek for the cap space, now they have just as little cap space and a terrible 4th liner instead of a backup who was hurt last year

So Murray ended off the year well, and Georgiev played well when Shesterkin was injured in November-December time, as well in the playoffs. I think he was hit by COVID and his numbers dipped. In regards to TJ, hes a player who while isnt what he once was, why is him on the 4th line so bad? 2X Cup champ, and is a clutch playoff performer. Doesnt hurt to have that type of depth in the playoffs. Its so hard to know what Mrazeks value is, but like Murray, he ended off the year strong after being injured for most of the season. Just spit balling here, and I would think between the 2 of Georgiev, the potential bounceback ability of Matt Murray with a familiar face as coach, there*could be something there.

Just noticed you are giving up Kallgren in the trade for Georgiev, if they do acquire Georgiev it wouldn't be worth giving up any of the goalie prospects or offering up much more than a 4th rounder or a prospect that has requested a trade/refused to sign because they want a better chance at a playing opportunity or a prospect in that situation even if they don't request a trade/refuse to sign.

The truth of the matter is that he probably won't have much of an impact on 4th line on the ice, his cap hit would have a greater impact and not a good one. If Murray does get bought out, he would probably 100% be signed by the Leafs if they were that desperate since he does have a relationship with Dubas from the SOO I think. Maybe they would get Georgie as a 3rd goalie (Mrazek, Murray, and him) if he was coming for basically nothing.

Ott is planning to run with 3-goalies potentially though so don't think Murray is getting bought out

Murray was also flat out awful a good hunk of the end of the year, same with georgiev. again, massive question marks are a terrible investment for a cup contender, this is stuff a lotto team goes in for and tries to get value for if the players turn it around. It's an awful idea for the leafs, take a chance on one? sure, both? no way in hell. and Jonson is a bad idea on the 4th line because he's recently not even played well enough to be an ok 4th liner, let alone a good one, and that's before you factor in that terrible contract. intangibles mean nothing when they are anchored to a terrible expensive player

I think that an unfair assessment about the goaltending. While I am not sold on Giorgiev being a full blown starter, the Rangers defensively aren't great. Shesterkin won then 10-15 games by himself by being the best goalie in the world this past season. The Leafs are undoubtedly better defensively than the Rangers so perhaps Giorgiev does a lot better in TO? Same thing with Murray, he was great in Pittsburgh when they were at the top of their game, however, Ottawa sucks. I think this tandem could absolutely turn out to be super good. And at this cap hit? If you could get a couple years out of them being cheap, that could be huge.

good goalies put up good numbers on bad defensive teams, he's not a good goalie and the rangers defense isnt an excuse.

Sorry the move serves no purpose for us other than a positional sense. Id prefer to keep TJ.
