Pettersson and Ruhwedel traded obviously “make the team worse” right now because we are getting picks back. So that argument isn’t really applicable to those trades.

Kapanen needs a change of scenery and there is the possibility he gets non tendered so we are using him and a few picks to get a good young dman with upside.

Buffalo trade zucker has negative value so we are essentially getting two picks (the 2nd, and the pick we wouldn’t have to give up to dump zucker) to swap our young dman for a young forward. We don’t have too many pure goal scorers, guys who can beat the goalie with their shot clean, so getting a young player who can do that in olofson would be a nice addition and gaining bear in the other trade is essentially our Marino replacement albeit not quite as good

Pettersson and Ruhwedel shouldn't be traded period. They make the team better than the replacements you brought in for them.

I couldn't care less about Kapanen. He's a lost cause.

Zucker provides a lot of value to this team. Even though he's somewhat undersized, he's one of the few physical players on this team and it's not his fault he doesn't get to play with Crosby (who he actually works well alongside). Olofsson is useless at 5v5 and isn't worth the contract you've given him and DEFINITELY isn't worth losing Marino over and the pick means absolutely nothing.

So again, every move you made makes the team objectively worse.

Any data you got on that? 36 points ES with a bum wrist not allowing him to shoot for half the season would beg to differ. 25/35 per 82 pacing over the last 3 seasons. The book was written on him because of an elite PP shot and playing 5v5 with Eichel, who never passed the puck. He’s a very good passer, ok (not great, not terrible) at defense. I’m not even talking about trade value. You called him terrible twice, have your ever watched the Sabres? It’s very clear you h haven’t. I’m not even a VO truther, but how insanely wrong you are is hilarious

Ruhwedel>Lybushkin?

Zucker doesn’t get to play with Crosby because he’s constantly injured, the guy can’t stay healthy. He has negative value for that reason.

An early second so worth nothing?

You don’t think bear is worth 2 thirds? If an early second means nothing, then surely 2 thirds also means nothing?

As for olofson, only 12 of his 49 points were on the PP last year. That really is not a big percentage. There is no denying that he has an elite shot, if you pair that shot with Crosby it could be deadly.

Is it though?

The lad who accepts is one voice, like myself, but in no red wing threads do you see red wing fans proposing that trade.. only penguin fan threads..

Using stats that actually matter instead of no-context counting stats like points, he ranks 619th out of 707 forwards in EV xGF impact since 2019. He's not a good player at 5v5 and there is no data to suggest that.
Looking at the defense, he ranks 667th out of 707 forwards for his defensive impact since 2019, so again, let's not pretend like he's actually even mediocre defensively. He is not a good player at 5v5. Go argue with a wall.
Your eye test means absolutely nothing because it does not agree with the data.

Ruhwedel and Lyubushkin are basically the same players, but Ruhwedel will only count for 800K against the Pens cap, and with the nature of their roster, that nearly $2 million difference means a lot.

Even when Zucker has been healthy he never gets a fair shake at playing alongside players that he works well with, but even holding that out, he still was a + offensive and defensive impact player for the Pens in 21/22.

That "early 2nd" is a magic bean. Whoever the Pens pick with that selection is more likely to never make the NHL than he is to be a meaningful player for the Pens.

The entire Bear trade is just a disaster. The Pens have better players already on the roster than him. Makes no sense to bring him in.

I don't care about how good Olofsson's shot is. Even if it is as good as you meatheads are saying it is, it hasn't helped him become a positive impact player at 5v5 offensively.

Every single Penguin proposal has that trade, the opposite is just not the case.

I respect the DRW fan who accepts it in every thread but if that sentiment was common, you would see it in every red wing fan generated proposal

Ok isolate for this year. Using 3 year old data while he was a rookie under possibly the worst coach ever in the soccer CEO Ralph Krueger is a bit disingenuous no? Of course it is, but you got a narrative to fulfill. Fancy stats have a place, if it’s all you go off of, good luck with the full picture. So to quote you, go argue with a wall using disingenuous tactics and scream “gotcha”. Because you didn’t.

Next you’re gonna tell me Dahlin sucks because he was terrible 3 years ago, as was the whole team,

Olofsson scored 20 goals when he played more than half the year with a bum wrist. His 5v5 game has gotten markedly better each of the last two years too. I think Buffalo is giving up too much here, but it's a solid place to start in a move that makes sense for both teams

actually dahlin's best year was his rookie season, the one thing housley did right lmao.

Olofsson has gotten better year to year, but the data on this years 5v5 numbers is hard to read cause he spent half of it playing hurt and then he was almost exclusively played with asplund, who is literally a top 5 defender amongst fwds. Good enough to hide someones mediocre 5v5 play away from the puck. He'll probably be back on a 1 year deal as a result, hard to know what to make of him.

Last year was Dahlin’s best year. He had a bad stretch for 15 games but then was dominant. As for VO, he’s gotten much better 5v5 and using data from 3 years ago under Ralph is disingenuous. I’m not that big of supporter of his, think he’s a borderline 2/3 Winger with an elite skill in his shot, but to call him bad and site data from 3 years ago, during his rookie year, and during Covid, under Ralph, is using data incorrectly to put it nicely.

Dahlin was bad for like 30, He dominated after the all star game. I think the person was using 3 year totals, not just data from three years ago, could be wrong though.

He was, but my point was that it was still disingenuous. If you want to use that long of data points fine. But the most current has to be the most weighted. Other factors outside the control (player) have to be weighed when looking at it as well. He didn’t do that. Just pulled all 3, and the first 1.5 years VO was a PP specialist and bad 5v5. The better (not great, but good 2nd line worthy) hasn’t outweighed that yet, but they’re supposed to count for the same? No, that’s bull**** and not how statistics and stats work. Kid should had back to stats 101.

As for Dahlin, his bad stretch was about 30 games, but not every game was a tire fire. And most were just one or two moments (big deal moments where he’d get embarrassed and walked with a goal against) but other then that fine. He played what everyone thought he’d be for about 40 games this year. Hopefully he keeps it up.
