Brent Burns to Dallas, just makes far too much sense. Pretty sure the Stars take that and run.

A 38, 39 and 40 Brent Burns is still better than a 34, 35 and 36 Jeff Petry any day of the year. Plus San Jose would probably gladly eat 50% of Burns just to get rid of him.

Brent Burns fits the mold of Pete DeBoer not Jeff Petry. Tyson Barrie might be even better for Dallas than those other two.

The value of the Dallas trade is about right with the retention. It just makes no sense for Dallas to trade their only real dman prospect for a declining dman. Whether its Burns or Petry. Dallas isn’t a contender so why step backward by getting older.

Doesn't change the fact Burns wil be on his age 38-40 seasons and with this deal cost Dallas it's top defenseman prospect really bad trade for them .

Dallas was stupid enough to hire Deboer. Usually that is the beginning of a list of other bad choices.

For sure but Hiring Deboer is a win the cup in the next 2 yrs move. Deboer is terrible with young players and did not sign on for a rebuild. they feel they have a goalies for the playoffs and already lots of older guys Suter, Pavelski and Benn and Seguin who are aging badly. Dallas is a win now team. in 3 seasons its going to be bad for Dallas

Burns wouldn’t be the worst idea, but certainly not at the cost of Harley, not even half retained.

Dallas isn’t in win now. Dallas is in just make the playoffs to keep butts in the seats. They are in a holding pattern until Johnston, Stankhoven, and Borque mature. This should coincide with Bennguin dropping off the books.

Harley will be better than Burns before Burns’ deal is up. Take it and run? I leave it all day long. I’ll be calling for Nill’s job if he trades any of Johnston, Bourque, Stankoven, Harley, or Grush for an old defenseman

Like I said. It’s to keep butts in the seats. If Dallas went full tank the building would be empty. They need to try to at least make an 8 seed. As far as Benn & Seguin there isn’t any getting rid of them. They both have full no movement clauses and are not worth their money. It would be cost prohibitive to try to move their contracts.

There’s a difference between remaining competitive and being a contender.
