Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Grant, Derek
  2. Moore, John
Additional Details:
Moore is currently burried in the minors. The Leafs will pay a small amount to trade him or retain salary to trade him or burry him. He is negative value.

Grant is a PP specialist who is not great at 5 v 5 but he has size at 6'3 and could be a useful player for the Leafs even if he is overpaid.
ANA
  1. Muzzin, Jake
Additional Details:
Rumour is that Muzzin would waive to go back to LA. If its about being close to family and friends then Anaheim is close and he gets that lifestyle while playing on a young team that will compete for a playoff spot.

For Anaheim they have lots of cap space and they can resign him for cheaper in 2 years. He can be a mentor for younger players and they need LD. They have Fowler who plays RD a lot but also plays LD and other than that they have no LD under contract. So it suits a need for sure.
2.
TOR
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (NSH)
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (FLA)
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (SEA)
Additional Details:
Toronto gives up the 25th pick and two high performing AHL players who could be cracking the NHL soon. Seattle is starting their own AHL team next season so they need some volume of players which is why I think if they trade up (which they should do) then they should also try to pick up AHL players as well just for volume.

To put this in numbers is pick 25 for 35, 49 and 61.

For reference in 2020 (no picks in the 20s were traded in 2021). Calgary traded the 18th to NY for the 22nd and 71st then traded then 22nd to Washington for the 24th and 79th.

In 2018 Ottawa traded the 22nd to NY for the 26th and 48th.

So factorin in a small cap dump plus a few valuable AHL players its about even by most draft pick value models.
SEA
  1. Duszak, Joseph [RFA Rights]
  2. Moore, John
  3. Rubins, Kristians [RFA Rights]
  4. 2022 1st round pick (TOR)
3.
TOR
CHI
  1. Mrázek, Petr
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (FLA)
4.
TOR
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse [RFA Rights]
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Edmonton gets a really solid third line C who can move into the Top 6 on the LW or RW. Similar to the role that Nuge plays but as a defensive minded player who still put up 50 points last year. At 1.75M its cheaper than what Puljuarvi's next contract would be and gives one year of having a very solid 1-2-3 down the middle even if you play Draisaitl and McDavid together.
EDM
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander ($1,750,000 retained)
5.
TOR
  1. 2022 6th round pick (PIT)
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (PIT)
  3. 2023 7th round pick (TOR)
PIT
  1. Kase, Ondrej [RFA Rights]
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (TOR)
6.
TOR
  1. 2022 4th round pick (NSH)
  2. 2022 5th round pick (NSH)

"they (ANA) need LD"

That could not be further from truth, outside of a bonafide #1 LD the Ducks do not need LD and Muzzin would just block our plethora of young LD

Vaakanien, Mahura, Benoit, Guhle, Larsson all are going to be fighting for the two LD spots after Fowler. Not to mention our prospects like Zellweger, Hinds, Thrun, LaCombe

Adding Muzzin just blocks a spot for one of them

But you can just take Derek Grant for free

Why get a PP specialist for a line that hardly plays? Did you mean PK?. Does Kessel risk his iron streak by signing in Tor? Idk.

"no picks in the 20s were traded in 2021"?!?!?

Detroit traded the #23 plus #48 and a 5th-round fresser to Dallas for #15
Edmonton traded #20 to Minnesota for #22 and #90 (Wild took G Jesper Wallstedt and Oilers took Xavier Bourgeault)
Carolina traded out of the first round (#27) to Nashville for #40 and #51, which is very close to your trade

That being said, in my opinion, you are really right on value there. Nice job!

You are totally right. Idk why the source I was looking at didn't have the 2021 data but had the header so I assumed there were none.

I don't think you want any of those guys in the top 4. Anaheim has an AHL logjam for sure but not with players who are likely to have significant NHL careers. I'd be shocked if Anaheim doesn't bring in a LD this summer.

Maybe you're unaware, but you can get any draft year from top to bottom by going to any player page and the first entry in the uppermost right-hand corner is when the player was drafted. If you click on that number, you get that year's draft, and then by changing the draft year, you can get any other year, too.

Maybe true, but it makes little sense to bring in an expensive veteran whose contract expires just as Anaheim's window will be opening (2024-2025). I can see a cheap stopgap, or an expensive youngster with term, but Muzzin is neither.

Why? It's a top 6 player relatively cheap. He put up 27 points in 50 games with just 13:59 average TOI. If you increase that to 20 minutes and play him in the top 6 he could put up 70 points.

I'm trading him cause he doesn't fit what the leafs need and the price is low because of injury concerns.

None of them are top 4 because they havent been given the chance, which is the prioirty with a rebuilding team, not giving that valuable ice time to an over paid injury prone veteran. If the Ducks need a veteran presence they can just keep John Moore or go out and get someone in FA

The Leafs would need to pay ANA to take Muzzin

I disagree, I think its kind of like the Leddy deal in Detroit or Robidas in Toronto. You get an expensive vetran who can mentor your players and you get him cheap because of the cap.

Cam Fowler and Kevin Shattenkirk are sufficiently qualified in the leadership category.

Hey any trade value you get out of Grant you take, could also probably flip Muzzin for additional assets.

I 100% agree, but even so I have zero interest in Muzzin.

Vaakanainen has the inside track to the 3rd pair spot. Benoit would be my choice for the 7th D / healthy scratch. Mahura and Guhle are good depth options for San Diego. But really insert these four names into these four depth chart slots any way you prefer.

Larsson should not be qualified... I don't even want him on the Gulls.
