Your Sens[es] serve you reasonably well. Although that looks like a bit much for Connor Brown

3mil for lyubushkin feels like a lot, he’s only a 3rd pair guy on talent (consistently the Leafs’s least played D by a significant margin vs. the lightning even below Holl), I definitely wouldn’t give him any term, and probably closer to 1-1.5mil. He might be a solid 3rd pair complement to Brannstrom though (probably better than hamonic)

love the forward group, and we get to keep 7oa to bring in a guy like gauthier, kemell, or savoie, plus the edmonton first can be used to grab a RD to develop in case thomson doesn’t work out (guys like chesley, casey, salomonsson, lamoreux, rinzel look like probably 2-4 of them should be available). the only thing is that i’d maybe target nichushkin over burakovsky, he can take on a big role on our PK and has the size and willingness to dig pucks out for stutzle and create space (especially if we bring in a small, skilled guy like garland, i know burakovsky is pretty big, but i think nichushkin uses his size better)

Lyubushkin I think has been fairly under used. His defensive metrics are really strong. Won't give much of anything offensively, and maybe 3mil is too much, but every Sens fan agrees they need to find Chabot his "Methot" type Dman and to me Lyubushkin can be that. I think he can be that physical stay at home guy to really let Chabot uncork his offensive upside. Plus bringing in Lyubushkin will help Zub cope with Zaitsev leaving lol.

Also I hard agree that Nichushkin is a much better player and fit than Burakovsky. I also think that he's absolutely going to stay in Colorado. Avs are going to lose a lot this summer but they can keep someone, and he's the obvious choice. I do like Burakovsky a lot as a fit with Stützle and Batherson.

I feel like you coulda made that argument with Lyubushkin prior to the deadline, but when he went to Toronto he got paired with Rielly, and it worked for a little bit, but when crunch time hit he was their #6. I don’t hate bringing him in because he’s a fine 3RD regardless and it might be worth trying him with Chabot, but I wouldn’t give him more than 1.5mil or 2 years (preferably 1 year at like 1.25mil).

Also FWIW I think Zub is that guy with Chabot, and the better prospect of Thomson/JBD gets paired with Sanderson. Maybe JBD becomes Chabot’s partner. I’m also no longer completely sold on the fact that the remaining RD we need must be a defense only guy. I think Zub is our top 4 defense only guy, and I think I’d rather have another solid 2-way puck-mover that is effective in transition and can also PK for the last slot (so basically, hopefully Thomson reaches his peak lol).

And yeah, Burakovsky would be fine too. That’d be a very skilled line for sure. I wouldn’t mind a guy like Marchment or Mikheyev either if we strike out on a bigger UFA like Bura or Nich.
