Palat might take that salary to stay in Tampa (tax free), but he would make more as a UFA, especially after his playoffs

Palat made 5.3 on his last contract. He’s not taking less than that on his new one

Gross underpayment on Palat. I think the contract he gets will age poorly but he’ll definitely get it.

Agree, he has shown in this years playoffs his value, but he hasn;t surpassed 50 pts in a season since 2016-2017. I agree as a UFA he probably wont get less.

but as 40-50 pt scorer, he should probably be in this range, was thinking maybe a longer term might work.

the difference between Sanheim and Girard's contract status.

Attard and the 4th gives COL value beyond the 1 yr left of Sanheim, (COL needs the cap space AND the RD prospect, but needs further cap in 23-24, so can walk away from Sanheim).

Maybe a bit rich (although I think COL fans will disagree), but it gives PHI 3 yrs of CONTROL and COST on Provorov, and 4 years on Ellis, Risto, Girard to see how York, our 5th overall pick and others develop and then use those pieces in trade if need be. If Ellis is healthy, thats a great 4 guys to work with and 2 stellar prospects (and a handful of lower pairing prospects). In some ways it takes out the "what do we do with a 4.6mil UFA in Sanheim worry", as well as providing a more offensive dman in Girard long term.

OK. That's understandable, but we're being left with no cap space. If Sakic is looking to position the team for cap compliance, PHI shouldn't have to throw in the sweetener of Sanheim's salary retention.
