Yes. I think the Avs can't know that the coyotes plan to buy him out.

Edit: They also traded him in the offseason and he was bought-out midseason if my memory serves me correctly.

He was bought out immediately if you’re meaning Orpik, the trade was made with the intention of COL buying him out it dropped the price on Grubauer.

COL isn’t spending another 1st rd pick for rental goalie. Love Varly but at some point sooner rather than later the Avs need to have some sort of solution in goal.

Isles decline...they can move Varly with no salary retained. At that price, they do not get any cap savings (once they sign a backup) and end up creating a worse team.

I don't think a 4th round pick gets you 2.5mm in cap savings so I assumed it would still require the Isles to eat some salary - which they wont do
