Toronto from outside perspective - Is this team better than last years

Created by: JKTakes
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 28, 2022
Published: Jun. 28, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I prefer to keep Holl instead of dealing him for picks to have depth on defense. The one I'd move is Muzzin but he's likely to stay.

Goalie situation is the question number 1, how to get rid of Mrazek while acquiring 2 new goalies, this is just my feeling - could be wrong, but to have Buffalo take Mrazek, you have to send Kerfoot and a pick as well to facilitate that.

You don't want to go to bidding war when signing your goalie FA, let alone 2, so this is pretty much ideal scenario, cost-wise for Fleury and Husso.

Is this team better than last years?
That bottom 6 is pretty rough. Maybe Knies will move somebody down when his NCAA season ends.

There are a couple of issues I have with this. For starters I don't think Engvall gets that much. 2.5 mil is the most I can see. Also, We shouldn't keep Holl at 2 mil if he is gonna be our 7th D. Lastly, we can't invest that much cap into our goalies if we aren't trading 1 of Muzzin or Nylander. We can't play with a bottom 6 like that over an 82 game season because when people get hurt it will be even worse.

Holl as the 7th D is a luxury that the Leafs can't afford, might as well move him and get someone with a lower cap hit.

You are spending too much on goaltending, if you have Husso locked, having Fleury would be nice if you can get him in the 2s though. Otherwise, they should get someone like Cormier who might be able to compete with Husso for the top spot but can also slot in behind him. Engvall is probably getting a bit too much if you have him at 2.3m though, move Holl, a 2m goalie, would give them 6.3m for upgrades (top 6 winger + 7th D).

Mrazek might have to be bought out which would be ~1m hit this year and ~1.45 as the max.

Fleury waived a trade to Toronto at the Deadline, this deal doesn't convince him to change his mind

Had all the same ideas, almost.

He could change his mind. We don't really know why he didn't want to go at the trade deadline, but I do agree he probably doesn't want to play in Toronto, and they can't afford him at 4m.

$8 mill almost on goalies isn't in the cards, or there would be no need to go outside.
