Description
Had an interesting read that suggested that Vancouver could move Miller for prospects and picks but then go back and sign Kadri.(https://twitter.com/ShopVANHockey/status/1541824381554495492?s=20&t=BQ0dVSNqSAiUy0x_TkgeNQ).

They are suggesting that a comparable contract for Miller is Zibanejad's 8.5m x 8 but the Canucks would rather pay 7-8m and probably a shorter term. It was suggested that Miller gets traded for futures and they sign Kadri to mitigate the associated risks.

So I made this ACGM based off other rumors. I will avoid picking ideal scenarios for this ACGM since things typically don't go perfect. I won't try balancing trades 100% but will focus more on the cap.

I'm going to assume the worst in that they give Kadri the Van $7,743,910x7, which is the Vancouver equivalent of the Zibanejad signing but a year less (I don't think anyone is actually giving Kadri 7 years in term though, so I could make it just 5 years since he is 3 years older than MZ but going for worst case) I'll try to then fit Kadri under the cap but also free up cap for future extensions.

Let me know in the comments if you guys think it's worth the risk to sign Kadri, if Miller returns a significant futures package. Let me know how much you would be comfortable signing Kadri for in the comments and the optimal package of futures for Miller. Also, feel free to put your input on balancing trades and I'll make updates if I agree.

Miller (29) - P/GP: 0.71 career (637GP 169G 285A 454P), 0.86 last 6 seasons, last year 1.24 (99pts in 80: career high in goals and assists)
Kadri (31) - P/GP: 0.69 career (739GP 219G 293A 512P), 0.76 last 6 seasons, last year 1.23 (87pts in 71: career high in assists only but was on pace for goals)

Worst Case Boeser gets 7.5mx8

Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Holl, Justin
  2. Kerfoot, Alexander
  3. 2023 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
For the Leafs, this trade is about upgrading Kerfoot, although acquiring him would potentially lead to the loss of Bunting next season.

Holl needs to go so that Sandin can play the entire season. Adding him to this trade is mostly about making the cap work for this trade.

He will be moved to CAR for Bear or kept for depth.

The Leafs will have to add a sweetner, probably Robertson or their 2023 1st.
TOR
  1. Garland, Conor
  2. 2023 4th round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Tor has be linked to him, along with the LA and NJ.
LA would probably be the best location to clear out cap+return more future pieces (that's why it might be better to trade Miller there). I think NJ would offer Zacha+ a pick (I'm guessing he extends for 3-3.5m x3, saving 1.45m-1.95m).

The Leafs can offer rentals that could help this year and clear space for the future, along with a future piece.

Toronto has less options to improve their top 6 compared to LA and NJ so perhaps they show the most interest.

The Toronto pick results in Van getting a net gain of 550k this year, but clear 4.95mx3 (money for a Kuzmenko (+Hoglander) extension).

Ferland's 3.5 will have to go for Horvat's extension and the extra+Schenn's 900k will go for a Schenn replacement

The 2.4m of dead cap will go to a Dermott extension/cap flexibility for the 2023-24 season.

Another possibility is that Kerfoot earns himself an extension and essentially takes Garland's hit.

2.
VAN
  1. Bear, Ethan [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Bear received permission to talk to teams and he has been talking to VAN. Bear's projected extension is 2.8m.

https://canucksarmy.com/2022/06/21/carolinas-ethan-bear-given-permission-talk-other-teams-should-canucks-interested/
CAR
  1. Holl, Justin
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (VAN)
3.
VAN
Will have to be for future pieces, ELCs/picks

Perhaps Seattle would take the entire cap hit on.
    SEA
    1. Myers, Tyler ($2,000,000 retained)
    Additional Details:
Potential destinations: Ana, Bos, Buf, Col, Dal, Det, Edm, Flr, NJ, Ott, Pit, Sea, Tor, Wsh
    https://www.yardbarker.com/nhl/articles/the_trade_market_for_canucks_d_tyler_myers_might_be_14_teams_bigger_than_we_thought/s1_15359_37568735

Vancouver will have to likely retain cap teams would love Myers at 50% but Vancouver can't afford that much in dead cap, perhaps a 3rd team could be involved though.

    4.
    VAN
    1. Zacha, Pavel [RFA Rights]
    2. 2023 1st round pick (NJD)
    3. 2023 2nd round pick (NJD)
    Additional Details:
Picks/ELC Prospects would be the most ideal return but I'll go for something a bit different.

    Extending Zacha for 3mx4
    https://www.capfriendly.com/comparables/pavel-zacha-9639
2023 1st round pick would be top 5 protected
    NJD
    1. Miller, J.T.
    Additional Details:
VAN has been taking offers on him for 5 months now reportedly, so he's been linked to several teams. Recently he's been linked to PIT, WSH, and NJ.
    https://www.nhltraderumor.com/penguins-capitals-devils-interested-in-trading-for-canucks-j-t-miller/

I suggested that Miller to LA would probably return the best mix quality/quantity of futures but haven't found anything connecting the two so have him going to NJ (I do think they should keep away, and same with VAN in regards to Kadri)
    5.
    VAN
    ARI
    1. Bailey, Justin [RFA Rights]
    2. Ferland, Micheal
    Additional Details:
Time for Ferland to go to retire island, he makes 2.75m next year and perhaps they would need some sweetner to take him.

Taking majormoose007's suggestion on moving on from Bailey, perhaps he can find some ice time in ARZ

Have at it, remember this is just a what if scenario.

Let me know which of these RFAs to sign and to what:

    Bailey, Justin,
    Highmore, Matthew
    Lammikko, Juho
    Lockwood, William
    Rathbone, Jack

Still have $3,329,423 in cap to spend for this year.

Trade block going into the season: Pearson, Dickinson, Ferland's contract, OEL

Please vote in the poll if you think it is worth it or not.

i appreciate your thoughtfulness! I would say yes on picks and prospects for Miller and no for Kadri. I believe EP40 is a center so you would be paying Kadri to be 3C at 7mil. I think they should clear cap, reset and maybe make a signing like that in 2-3 years when they are ready to make a push(hopefully they luck out and win the lottery and get Bedard next year)

EP40 isn't that great in the faceoff circle so they probably would want to get someone who is better on his wing (perhaps Dvorak out of MTL). I don't think it should be Kadri since as you said would be kind of paying 7m for a 3C or you are pushing out Horvat (perhaps they are open to moving on from him depending on what he expects from an extension and Kuzmenko's performance) or giving up on EP40 as a C.

I think they should be trying to win now, but they probably have the core-pieces already now.

    Thank you for your input.

I'd like Kadri for sure, but I don't think spending that kind of money is the way to go right now. I think that money can be better spent upgrading the defense or adding 2-3 depth forwards. And for the RFAs you can sign everyone but Bailey. Bailey is really fast and is good in the AHL but hasn't translated to the NHL all that well. Highmore and Lammikko did great on the 4th line under Boudreau but fell off when Motte was traded. Rathbone is the best prospect in the organization and should make the team out of camp. Lockwood brings much needed speed and physicality but not much otherwise. I appreciate the thought you put into this

    Ty for your input.

Has Ferland been injured since the bubble? Guessing he's done if that's the case.

Guess he could be moved to LTIR retire Island in ARZ, since he's only getting paid 2.75m. If they would want a sweetner then no point in trading him there but just wanted to move the contract.
