That trade with the Penguins... You're offering up an awful lot of value in order to acquire the 21st overall draft pick this summer. That doesn't make any sense for a team that considers itself to have entered "win-now" mode. Yamamoto is under some team control still, and his playoff performance was quite impressive for an undersized forward. I'm certain the Oilers will be keeping him, if his contract demands are reasonable. Barrie is not a cap dump. There are plenty of people who deride his game and point to his defensive deficiencies, but they completely ignore his ability to quarterback a power play and provide offense from the blue line. He is not paid to be a shut-down style defender, although he held his own in the recent playoffs. His $4.5M x2 is a relative steal for any team hoping to contend and in need of more punch on the power play and a mobile, scoring defenseman.
