Description
Yes EJ, Girard, JT have to go. Bargain sales. If not those trades then others to offload salary and reload. I hve 21 mil to sign Mac, Byrum, Newie. I went extra length to get the AAV down on Kadri, Nuke, and manson. Keumper wanted 6 mil but I could get MAF for 4. Yes I went there. Newie makes Burky expendable. Byrum showed he made Girard expendable. EJ is ready to retire. I could put him on LTIR and not do the trade. He made one more sacrifice for Joe Sakic as a favor and got him some draft pieces. They hire EJ as a coach in 2024 when he retires. I want krebs. Yes Buffalo is taken but they could get another prospect or draft pick(not a 1st) for Krebs. Before you yell no way a first for Girard, it's the lightning 1st so it's a 25+ pick that is protected so it can't be less then 25 and if its the next year it is still protected. Girard is worth a 25+ and another pick. colorado finally brings up Kaut but could be bowers or any other prospect for the rw postion on the 4th line. If they can't do the job we get someone who can.

Sabres laugh at that offer

Krebs > Newhook,
and Compher isn’t even in the ballpark dude
He’s a decent player, but still 3C with no better upside

And we just aren’t giving away the upside of Krebs for a 3C
Much like u guys wouldn’t do so for Newhook

Why would you pay Suban 8 mill? He’s not a good player any more.

Colorado doesn’t have anything Buffalo is willing to give up Krebs for. Certainly nothing Colorado is prepared to part with. Newhook is a nice player, but he’s signed for one less year than Krebs already, they are otherwise pretty similar players.

@Spyeye "Yes Buffalo is taken but they could get another prospect or draft pick(not a 1st) for Krebs."
Why not a first round pick or at least another second?

Colorado doesn’t have anything Buffalo is willing to give up Krebs for...
I am keeping Quinn and Peterka in Rochester one more year because:
Pominville spent over 3 years in Rochester and was 23 before he became Sabre regular.
Vanek after two years at the U of Minn spent a full season in Rochester and was 21 before he became Sabre regular.
Roy spent parts of three seasons in Rochester and was 22 before he became a Sabre regular.
Gaustad spent three seasons in Rochester and was 23 before he became a Sabre regular.
So let's develop our prospects rather than rush them as we did with Thompson, Mittelstadt, Cozens, Ristolainen, Girgensons, Grigorenko etc.
Where do you all see Krebs in Buffalo line up next year?
This is a possible line up:
Skinner Cozens Tuch (Dylan appears to be Buffalo's future #1 center)
Asplund Mittelstadt Thompson (this line up was very effective when Granato used it the last 25 games of 2022-'21)
Olofsson Krebs Hinostroza (last year Olofsson and Krebs struggled keeping the puck out of the net)
Girgensons ???? Okposo (Ruotsalainen/Larsson?)
If I put Thompson at center, then Krebs would be the Sabres fourth line center?
That makes no sense what so ever.
Krebs does not play defense very well, Compher does and is more suited to 3rd line center.
Compher was one of Colorado's top PK forwards the last four years.
Unfortunately, Compher is only signed for one more year, but he would be a perfect third line center for Buffalo.
Taking Compher's salary and considering the upside Krebs, the 43 OA is woefully insufficient to make up the difference.

Let's jump forward 8 months, if Lehkonen could return Justin Barron and 2024 round 2 pick at this years TDL, I would imagine Compher could do the same or more.

Vanek, Roy, Pommer and Gaustad all spent an extra season in the AHL primarily because of the lock-out. They likely would have been integrated into the line-up a season earlier had the 2004-05 season not been entirely lost. Roy even spent 50 games with the Sabres in 03-04.

You are correct and that obviously accounts for Vanek, but Pominville, Roy and Gaustad spent parts of 3 years in Rochester and were all 22 yo or older, Peterka and Quinn will be only 21 next year, keep them on the farm one more year.
Buffalo is at least four good players away from competing, #1 Center, #1 RW #1 RHD and #1 GK.
The playoffs convinced me that Buffalo does not have the team yet and should stay in a holding pattern one more year.
I love Tage but he is no Huberdeau, Tarasenko, Aho, Gaudreau, Matthews, Crosby, Ovechkin, MacKinnon, Kucherov, Panarin or McDavid and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is at least a year away.
Keep the kids down on the farm one more year to grow muscles, confidence, experience and skills.

But that does not answer the question, Where do you all see Krebs in Buffalo line up next year?

EDIT: I should add, the team will be better next year, maybe finally crack 82 pts.
Buffalo does appear to have two world class defensemen Dahlin and Powers.
Dahlin will be in the running for the James Norris Memorial Trophy
Powers could win the Calder Trophy
Girgensons and Asplund are excellent defensive forwards and both could get more consideration for the Selke award next year.
Skinner and Olofsson are solid LW and both IMO will exceed 30 goals next years.
Tuch brings more than scoring so he may not be a top 30 RW he is above average at RW.
Quinn could give Buffalo a top 15 RW so keep him in Rochester one more year and let him win the Colder Trophy the following year.
Still no top center or world class GK on the horizon.
