NJ Summer of 2021

Created by: Pattymelt47
Team: 2022-23 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 26, 2022
Published: Jun. 29, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Devils attempted to take some big strides in the summer of 2021 in hopes of getting back into playoff contention. They identified their blueline as an issue and addressed it by signing the premier defensive UFA (Hamilton/Klingberg) to a 7-year deal and trading for a towering defenseman entering his 4th NHL season in search of a larger role (Graves/Hague). They also added to their young forward group by acquiring some veteran top-6/top-9 skill (Tatar/Niederreiter).

This obviously didn't lead to the instant success NJ was hoping for, but they managed decent underlying numbers while being hit with major injuries and possibly the worst goaltending in the league.

I used this as a template for a direction the Ducks could take this season to accelerate their rebuild

This…. This doesn’t look like the New Jersey Devils to me.

Edit: Nevermind, didn’t read the description for the AGM properly.

Ooops. I missed that. I thought it was a depth signing for $800,000 and didn't bother looking carefully at the name. You're right; I was careless. Thanks for catching me!

Lol I just went with what was being reported.

There’s no doubt this team would be filthy in transition under the right system, but struggle deep in their own zone without the puck.

Ideally, I’d like to just see them re-sign Manson and grab another top 9 scorer instead of signing Klingberg.

Give me Josh Manson on like a 2 x $5,500,000 and by then Helleson will be ready to take over

I’d sign Manson for 4 x $4.5 mil. Helleson should be ready for 3rd pair minutes by the time Shatty’s contract is up easy.

That’s fair but I don’t think I would want more than 3 years though

Splitting hairs. I give him the 4th year as a good faith gesture for coming back to a rebuilding team at a discount.

Plus the cap should be going up halfway through the contract anyway.
