I think that's probably what makes it even IMO. In this scenario, Sandin would be in the mix and would make moving Orlov a little more palatable.

my two cents on losing Orlov (would hate that) is you could try to sign Leddy or Chairot for the replacement in free agency instead of the offer sheet route.

Sandin is not remotely an adequate replacement for the best D on the Caps. That lineup would get shelled every night.

The 5 defenseman they have signed + Johansen or a vet min is pretty good imo, especially if Fehervary plays more like he did in the first half of last season. It's nowhere near good enough, however, to lose Orlov who might have been their third best player period last year behind Ovi and Kuzy. Unless you are 110% going to land Chychrun (or for some reason a Makar or Hedman becomes available), I see absolutely zero scenarios in which they do or should move Orlov. Sandin is a great OS target, but he is at this point in their respective careers not a direct replacement. Chiarot or Leddy would be disastrous in that role, Letang and Klingberg would be too expensive and are more Carlson replacements, and there's no one else in FA that comes close.

Miller and Boeser are both great players, but they don't make the top 9 so insanely good that they can run out 3 rookies/sophomores on the left side. Take Orlov out, and its still bordering on an overpay for both IMO anyways.
