High Risk, High reward contract. He's either going to become a star or a 3rd liner.

Jarmo might use this as a contract comparable to sign Laine long term.

Laine is hitting the UFA market and going to be looking for a double digit payday. Two 1 year contracts to come for Columbus and Laine.

Good deal imo.
Kings should have enough ELCs to carry this cap hit in the short term without issue over the next 2-3 years and without issue further into the future with Kopitar and other contracts coming off their books in some years time.

love this contract for the kings, only downside is they're running out of cap space. So another move is definitely coming. This team is going to be so fun to watch next season.

Highly doubtful.

He's a Winnipeg fan probs a little salty that PLD already wants out and they have nothing to say for the Laine trade

I had Fiala signed for what Andrei Svechnikov got at 7.75 million x 8.

This is right on the nose basically.

Vote yes.

The money is...something. Part of the reason why I voted 'No', along with the inclusion of the no move clause.

If the definition of good is a perfectly fine contract that shouldn't kill them but also is not a bargain, yes. The only thing that would change that if there are buyout proof signing bonuses. My only criticism would be that Fiala has not been good in the playoffs, but maybe they feel like they have enough primary guys who are big and will play a certain style, that they can splurge on Fiala.

Assuming we don't shut down for 3 years due to Monkey Pox, the cap is going to shoot way up half way through this contract once escrow is paid back. 4 years from now, 8 million will be like 6 million is now.

Great contract for Fiala and the Kings. Should be a perfect fit.

Not salty at all. Laine like PLD are both going to get max value and will wait till the cap goes up and the new TV contract kicks in. He double hockey sticks, I would do the same thing if I was in there position. You think Laine will sign long term at this point in his young hockey career not to hit the market, your just crazy with some hometown blinders on.

Laine is likely going to say he's a more proven player and thus deserves $10M. Fiala had a great year, No Doubt.

Yeah that is definitely not happening. Going to be a massive 7 year contract 2 years from now with a 9 or a 1 in the front of it.

I disagree. I think we give him a contract til the cap goes up in 4 years. He likes Columbus and has said so multiple times. Gonna be a 4 or 5 year contract at 8.5 mil

Pretty much what the doctor ordered.

Personally I would've gone after Forsberg but Fiala ain't a bad alternative

This is a fine deal given Fiala's age. He will be only 32 when it ends, so it shouldn't be come an albatross.

I remember a player that scored a bunch of goals out of nowhere, got his payday and sat on it. Is Fiala the next Skinner? This contract will basically make the Kings cup contenders or they'll be stuck with an albatross for almost a decade.
