Wright at 2

Created by: Hockeyfan95
Team: 2022-23 Arizona Coyotes
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 29, 2022
Published: Jun. 29, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Here are some moves I think Arizona should TRY and do. They should continue accuqiring assets to take on bad contracts for teams that are cap strapped. If Wright is available at 2, which there has been rumours about, they should trade up and take him. He is a legitimate 1C in the NHL and if they can pair him with his best teammate Othmann as well as a sniper like Gunther, Arizona could have a great line for the future. They should continue to acquire young players that may have struggled last season as they can help give more playing time and build their stock up while also having them for the future. The roster below is not how they will start night 1 but is just a list of players and prospects they can get that can help them now and in the future. This team is still not close to competiting and will still be in the Berdard sweepstakes.

Trades
1.
ARI
  1. 2022 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
NJD has been rumoured to trade the 2nd player for win now. Although this isn't that trade they only move down 1 spot in the draft and accumulate more draft capital they can trade down the line.
NJD
  1. 2022 1st round pick (ARI)
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (PHI)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (FLA)
2.
ARI
  1. Gauthier, Julien [RFA Rights]
  2. Kravtsov, Vitali
  3. Nemeth, Patrik
  4. Othmann, Brennan
  5. 2024 2nd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
New York gets the big trade chip in Chychrun who instantly boosts their defence corp and is a move that can genuinely push them over the ECF that they just came off of. In return they give former top 10 pick Kravstov who has struggled to make roster and has been in many rumours. They trade away last years 1st round pick in Othmann who will team up with Wright to reunite their dynamic duo. They also recieve the rights to a young player who has struggled to make the roster in Gauthier as well as a 2nd round pick to take on Nemeth contract and free up cap space for New York.
3.
ARI
  1. Brännström, Erik [RFA Rights]
  2. Zaitsev, Nikita
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (TBL)
  4. 2022 3rd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Arizona trades away a young solid player in Crouse which helps boulster Ottawa's foward core but in return they recieve a young defensemen Branstrom who could use a change of scenery and recieve a 2nd and a 3rd to take on 2 more years of Zaitsev's contract.
4.
ARI
  1. Abruzzese, Nick
  2. Mrázek, Petr
Additional Details:
It has been rumoured that Abruzzese has to be included in order for a team to take on Mrazek contract. This would give Arizona a good young player and a goalie that can play in the NHL. This is a move Toronto almost has to make to free up cap and help their team.
TOR
5.
ARI
  1. Barrie, Tyson
  2. Lavoie, Raphael
Additional Details:
Arizona gets Lavoie who was a former 2nd round pick in order to take on Barrie's contract. Edmonton could also give away a future 2nd or something along those lines to dump Barries contract, regardless they have to get rid of that contract to free up cap.

If Slaf isn't there as a Devils fan I'd do this. I think Cooley is better than Wright anyway.

Cuylle/Lundkvist instead of Othmann NYR accepts. We need to hold onto him. We need a pure goal scorer

I think Arizona pushes for Othmann just to pair with Wright, it is a move that makes sense for both but I understand your standpoint. I think it depends how Drury feels but if not I'd go as far as to add something to trade if Im Arizona and get Wright

Edmonton can probably get a 2nd for Barrie without including Lavoie. There's no way they'd do that.

I dont think Barries contract will fetch a second rounder. I think they will have to give up an asset and potentially recieve a late round pick.

Probably not. There's rumours of Seattle, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Carolina being potentially interested in Barrie. With that many teams in the running, the oilers would definitely get an asset for him. If there wasn't a market they wouldn't pay to move him. Kassian on the other hand, they would probably pay to move.

For sure if there is a market for him then by all means they'd do that. Again this is IF they have to get rid of his contract/no suitors
