Sidney Crosby: played in the CHL, under 6ft, drafted 1st overall.

Sid was one of the best players in the 21st century if not the best.

But you can’t teach size…

Don’t worry, professional idiot Grant McCagg’s already talking about how Bedard shouldn’t go 1

As we have seen time and time again size aint everything

Bedard if all goes well is going to be a monster up there with Mcdaivd, Matthews, MacKinnon, etc.

Why do you like Ovchinnikov so much? I don’t mean that in a rude way, I’m genuinely curious as he doesn’t stand out in any way.

No idea what they see but

When we drafted Ovch I looked into some scouting reports and the kids interesting

He does all the little things teams like and has the offensive tools to be dangerous while also knowing how to play sound defense. His issue mainly involves a lack of physicality but thats not a necessity considering you can pair him with a physical wing or center. Plus in like half the number of games he had the 4th most points on his MHL team kind of funny

Either way he could become one of those prospects nobody paid attention to but ends up climbing the ranks real quick or ends up being a nobody. Hes only 19 so no rush

But knowing fate wont list who peaked my interest as the hockey gods will make them go top 10 lul

This is a better profile than I could ever give

Why do I like him?

Because outside of Ty Voit, Ovchinnikov is the Leafs most dynamic, creative, offensive forward they have in the system

He's very electric; unbelievable skater. A longshot to make it, as are the vast majority of prospects, but he's loads of fun and on the off chance he reaches his ceiling... Oh boy

I’ll definitely have to look into him more as admittedly I don’t know much about him. Based on your guy’s descriptions of him I’m very intrigued.

Those kids were born in 2005. I was turning 46 when they were born. My own kids are 10 plus years older than them and I guess you. You’re not old kiddo

Cameron Allen is a really smooth skater and natural playmaker on the point. The kid reminds me of Dysdale. Barlow with 2 SHGs also has looked amazing out there tonight. 8-0 after one period is tough. I feel bad for Cristobal Huey’s kid in goal right now

Allen looks like he could be a top 4 defenceman in the NHL in the next few years. He's the captain too, which always means something on these teams.

I really don’t think I’m overstating this, every team with a 1st round pick in 2023 is going to get a really special player. It’s that deep

I'm really so freaking hyped for this draft, not a lot of depth outside forwards but the forward crop is sensational

For my third post in a row, because they're all about slightly different things, here's who impressed me in the finals of the U18s (I was at a friends cottage for the whole tournament except the finals, it was heart-wrenching)

Cameron Allen was very good. Good decisions with the puck, smooth skater, not afraid to rush it and he's good at it. He was the captain and he shaved his head (this last fact was critical to my analysis). Also was PP quarterback and made some nice plays.

Ethan Gauthier can score, holy smokes. He is going to score 50 goals in the Q next season. He has a rocket of a shot. And I've seen clips of Quentin Musty too....he might do 40 in the O just because of better competition.

I really like Denver Barkey, he might be my favourite undersized player for this class. He's like a pinball, he just runs around with or without the puck and makes plays. Not afraid of contact, either.

Mathieu Cataford had stretches where he looked just like Brendan Gallagher, just not as big, which is his issue IMO if he's gonna stand in front of the net on the PP. I didn't really notice him when he wasn't there however.

Tanner Molendyk also had stretches of greatness, a lot of the stuff I like in guys like Q Hughes, Casey, Hutson. But he was a little reckless with the puck and made some questionable plays, he might be a dark horse if he irons those out.

Dylan MacKinnon made some solid passes, but ultimately didn't get any important ice time so I didn't see him very much.

Yager, Ritchie, Wood, Benson were all great. I knew they were great though so I tried to watch other guys. Yager has a cannon of a shot and Ritchie is a playmaker extraordinaire.

For Sweden, Tom Willander and Edvin Nilsson kept making sweet play after sweet play on the back end, looking to the middle of the ice, doing smart rushes, and making plays. I don't know much else about them but they both looked quite good and I'll keep tabs.

Theo Lindstein was the best player on Sweden, not Stenberg IMO. I didn't really notice Stenberg as much as I would've liked when he wasn't scoring, but he did score. Lindstein was so smooth, sometimes got himself into tough spots like turning into pressure but got out of it with good hands and excellent vision.

The goalie class is also legit next year. Again, everyone with a 1st rounder next year will get a special player
