don sweeney back

Created by: ji4849
Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 29, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
retool (not a complete rebuild - although this starts that process nonetheless) of the bruins roster. main focus is keeping the main core intact and then pretty much completely overhauling everything that isnt the top lines of the team.

roster notes:
- i dont buy the rumors that pasta wants out bc of sweeney. im sure hes not popular with the players to an extent but im more sure that management will make sure that pasta remains an untouchable for the team's future
> sub-note: i can however (and believe that this should be the case depending on how the team is doing by that point) see marchand moved (to a team thats desperate to make a cup push) at the deadline.
- i also dont buy the whole bringing krejci back thing personally but i dont think it would make sense to regardless unless we go more in the direction of pushing for the cup (wishful thinking being that we're likely hiring
- im personally a believer in just keeping debrusk at this point, especially moving in this direction
- hall is definitely a question mark but id say it'd be better to keep him around for at least the short term and worry about him later
- bergy's deal i can see being cheaper and incentivized heavily if this really is his last (😖)
- trocheck to boston is the most realistic imo of those "higher end" FA forwards
- im sure cbj will try to match boqvist and its a bit of an undershot for kulak. however with gryz and mcavoy out for the first ~quarter of the season i'd like to see sweeney be aggressive with UFA/RFA defenders (knowing him however this will actually be incentive to keep a guys like forbort and josh brown around despite how brutal their pricetags are)
- kessel on a 1 year deal to get some production in the bottom 6 and get to the cap floor

the bruins are a very weird team to build

      5. Smith, Craig
      Additional Details:
No specific trade but these are all players the Bruins should be looking to move on from. Haula/Smith can be enticing middle-end scraps for another playoff caliber team with a good amount of wiggle in their cap space (Dallas/Nashville for example); Carlo can fetch an okay/decent haul from a similar team who's in need of a top 4 RHD; Nosek can get us maybe a 2023 late rounder from a team that has a garbage bottom 6; Coyle may be very hard to move but his contract value is abysmal for what it is.

      1. Zacha, Pavel [RFA Rights]
      Additional Details:
Zacha gets his scenery change, Boston gets a solid young middle 6 wing option instead of paying millions of dollars for 30+ year olds
      NJD
      1. Frederic, Trent
      2. 2022 2nd round pick (BOS)
      Additional Details:
Fitz gets a good fit that he can slot in the bottom 6 for some added grit and a pick (can be worked on) to build on

Adam Boqvist would never sign that, his QO is probably higher. And what do you mean CBJ will try to match? It’s barely over an ELC. Did you do the right dollar amount? Lol

Either way that’s definitely matched. Boqvist is a top-4 D and one of the key pieces they just got back for Seth Jones. He’s not going anywhere

yeah fair. again most of this is empty trade projections and such because it's more of a general idea than a concrete plan but the idea there is my wish for management to be aggressive in the D market
      joshelkin liked this.
