Based on Fiala you should be paying less. Sign and trading for Forsberg is a waste of a draft pick and a player. I’m not even sure you would want him for the 8th year.

To keep the AAV down (and prevent him from getting to the open market) I am very much in favor of paying to lock him in. We need a legit scorer on this team. Assuming NSH is ready to let him reach the open market they should whatever they can get

anderson could possibly be the habs next capitain, i think theyd only move him for a decent first round pick to go deeper into their rebuild

the wild had to take what they could get for fiala because they couldnt re sign him, players under contract might go for a little more...

im going to use the willy trade here because im a leafs fan.

the value for willy is right, but the leafs most likley want right nows instead of futurs, unless they see a guy at 13 they see as nhl ready, mayfield is a nice piece and id like to have KB too, but id rather have an impact roster forward than the 13 pick, unless for some reason one of jiricek, nemec, cooley, slaf or wright falls to 13, which it wont. anyways i hope this helps

To be honest I really don’t even want him. There were “rumors” the Isles offered the #13 pick (which I doubt) and Habs fans have been adding guys like Beauvillier or Dufour to the deal for Anderson. It’s hilarious. Isles should not be parting with those type of assets for him, he’s hurt a ton and doesn’t even play PP

That’s all fair. And for Willy as the example you could turn around and used that “saved” roughly $5m towards a goalie or UFA forward (Palat? Copp? Trocheck? etc) to replace Nylander. Maybe flip the 13th pick as well? Who knows. I see what you’re saying though.

I’d rather give him one less year than overpay him for even longer.

if i trade nylander in hopes of signing a guy its kadri, but id want to sign the guy first, you can go 4 mill over the cap in the off season cant you?

I mean it’s so far down the line does it even matter? In a flat cap/minimal raising cap environment every penny will matter. Hopefully by the end of that deal the cap will have caught up some to water down the AAV. Could always be dumped at the end? Bought out? It’s so far into the future, I’d rather kick the can down the road and have the extra cap flexibility for the first handful of years that really matter

I think you’re allowed to be 10% over the cap during the offseason but must be compliant by opening night

I think you’re allowed to be 10% over the cap during the offseason but must be compliant by opening night

yeah so if i trade for willy id want to trade for either kadris or nichushkins signing rights first, like i said, nice offers, not anything under whelming or over the top
                joshelkin liked this.

How is a signed Forsberg only worth 64OA, a conditional 3rd, and a scrub?

I mean it’s so far down the line does it even matter? In a flat cap/minimal raising cap environment every penny will matter. Hopefully by the end of that deal the cap will have caught up some to water down the AAV. Could always be dumped at the end? Bought out? It’s so far into the future, I’d rather kick the can down the road and have the extra cap flexibility for the first handful of years that really matter

Of course it matters. Not thinking about the long term ramifications is how you end up with Andrew Ladd. Not comparing Forsberg to Ladd, but imagine Isles had sign and traded for Ladd and had him for an extra year. Not a good idea.

Sign and Trade so it’s really an overpay. But it’s a bad idea
anyway. Also Bellows isn’t a scrub.

Because in this scenario NSH is content letting him go to market and potentially leave for nothing. So you take what you can get, and in this case it’s a pretty good offer

Like you said they’re two different players in very different stages of their careers when this would’ve hypothetically happened. Also the flat cap now really plays a big role. If you’re going to pay him $9.5x7 just go $8.5x8. The back end of the deal probably won’t be great anyways but this team has to win now

He probably has 5 years left as a top line player. You really want to tack an extra year onto the back of that? Terrible idea.

Who knows if he would sign here once other teams begin to court him on the open market? I really think a top line scorer is priority #1 this summer, including the LD needs (primarily because it can’t get worse than Chara/Greene). Forsberg can be that guy. Just want to lock one in, it’s been way too long since we’ve had a guy who can dent the crossbar

Maybe we should just keep our money and play the guy who keeps scoring four goals a game in the CHL lol

Does he need a year tho lol. Shouldn’t keep him down there cause Lou wants his entire roster to live in assisted living lol.
