Wow.

Noted.

Cal Petersons contract is the worst one of this grouping though. His contract is a yikes.

My thought process : LA get a top 4 left dman, Shed cap at goalie and get a pick. Leafs get a different goalie option who will need to bounce back, get a right dman and a gritty 4th line winger.

Leafs would need to believe in Peterson for this to work out.

Kings say no.

The fact they need to give up Petersen for Mrazek makes the answer to your question glaringly obvious.

Definitely the Kings as they don't want/need Muzzin they're in the market for a younger LHD like Sanheim or Chychrun and while Petersen had a rough season he's capable of bouncing back and is much more reliable than Mrazek.

Cal Petersen is 27. Jake Muzzin is 33. Petersen is much more likely to bounce back than Muzzin. Matt Roy is worth a late 1st, and Lemieux is a filler, you can probably sign him as UFA, he has little value to LA. This trade isn't close for LA, they take 3 steps back with this deal.

Did you just forget to click on Matthew Knies and the Leafs 1st round pick?

Who in this trade is worth the Leafs top prospect?

Based on comments, I am definitely off on the trade. But I assume if that 3rd was the 1st, people would be okay with it.

Not both the 1st and knies.

It's more just my automatic response to any Muzzin to LA trade at this point. Leafs fans trying to will something that won't happen into existence, so I figured I might as well do the same. Maybe it might have an effect on the sheer amount of times I have to say "WE DONT WANT MUZZIN AND WE DONT WANT YOUR BAD CONTRACTS." So don't take it too personally.

In all seriousness though, Muzzin and Mrazek are both dumps, plain and simple. In this trade, LA gets the worse, older, more injured goalie. And LA gets the worse, older, more injured defenseman. All while creating a hole on their right side that none of the RD prospects properly fill (they're offensive minded, Roy is the best Kings defense-first guy). In addition, the Kings come out of it with the higher cap hits.

It would take more than just an upgrade to a 1st to bring this trade to fruition because that's going to be the MINIMUM cost to dump your two guys.

You go on about how Cal's contract is bad, but honestly 1 bad year isn't enough for the Kings to give up on who they expect their goalie of the future to be. He just didn't take the reigns last year.

And I, while admittedly biased, will argue till I'm blue in the face that Roy is worth SIGNIFICANTLY more than just "a late first." The dude dragged the Kings to the playoffs playing nearly 25 minutes a night as the #1D with Doughty injured. My stance on him is this: He won't win the Norris, but he'll be the guy Morgan Reilly buys dinner for first after Morgan wins it.

Petersen has much more value than Mrazek.

Roy has much, much more value than Muzzin and his contract which, I note, is the worst one of the grouping because Petersen could still live up to his, while Muzzin will never be worth that contract again.

The third and Lemieux are probably a wash because Lemieux will probably play three more seasons before that draft pick turns into an actual NHLer, if ever.

This isn’t actually very far off in my opinion the kings get to dump Peterson and his horrible contract for a cheaper cap dump in mrazek and send Roy out for a guy they’re familiar with in the position they desperately need in muzzin. Maybe change the 3rd to a 2nd and just take Lemieux out and I could see it happening

This is more than far off, it's another galaxy off. Kings are not going to dump Peterson, his contract is not horrible. What is horrible is what you think the Kings would trade for from Toronto

Cal Peterson is a 5m backup. You can’t seriously think that’s a good thing to have, if LA can get rid of him for any kind of return they should, and this return actually makes them a better team

Kings believe Peterson will be the starter going forward otherwise they wouldn't have signed him to that contract. As Colorado just proved, you need two to three good goalies in this league to go far, not just one.
