Who in this trade is worth the Leafs top prospect?
Based on comments, I am definitely off on the trade. But I assume if that 3rd was the 1st, people would be okay with it.
Not both the 1st and knies.
It's more just my automatic response to any Muzzin to LA trade at this point. Leafs fans trying to will something that won't happen into existence, so I figured I might as well do the same. Maybe it might have an effect on the sheer amount of times I have to say "WE DONT WANT MUZZIN AND WE DONT WANT YOUR BAD CONTRACTS." So don't take it too personally.
In all seriousness though, Muzzin and Mrazek are both dumps, plain and simple. In this trade, LA gets the worse, older, more injured goalie. And LA gets the worse, older, more injured defenseman. All while creating a hole on their right side that none of the RD prospects properly fill (they're offensive minded, Roy is the best Kings defense-first guy). In addition, the Kings come out of it with the higher cap hits.
It would take more than just an upgrade to a 1st to bring this trade to fruition because that's going to be the MINIMUM cost to dump your two guys.
You go on about how Cal's contract is bad, but honestly 1 bad year isn't enough for the Kings to give up on who they expect their goalie of the future to be. He just didn't take the reigns last year.
And I, while admittedly biased, will argue till I'm blue in the face that Roy is worth SIGNIFICANTLY more than just "a late first." The dude dragged the Kings to the playoffs playing nearly 25 minutes a night as the #1D with Doughty injured. My stance on him is this: He won't win the Norris, but he'll be the guy Morgan Reilly buys dinner for first after Morgan wins it.
