Thoughts on the NJD trade?

Leafs get a young promising centre/winger and downgrade their pick. NJD get a young promising left dman and move up a bit in the draft. Leafs also get a bit of cap space from the move.

Absolutely not. Sandin doesn’t fill a need. Mercer can play top 6 wing or 3C for years to come

Devils don’t do that. Not enough for miller. Also let’s say they got miller half retained, what do they do next year having given up all that without being able to resign him?

The value is not close. Sandin doesn't hold that sort of value and the picks are within ~10 picks that the difference in value between the 2 players doesn't make up for those ~10 spots.

Either trade someone to make the cap space or let him walk. This trade is with the assumption that they more than likely will not be able to resign him.

I’m a big fan of Sandin and would love to have him in Jersey, but there’s no way Leafs would swing Mercer in return.

Rather just OS Sandin at 4.2m in two weeks only to give up a 2nd rd pick in the process.
Doubt Dubas could match that.
