What does Pearson add that the Canes can’t get as a UFA?

Why are we trading a 2nd for a guy that’s not going to play?

I could see us doing this if we strike out on a bunch of UFA targets. 6th isn’t much to pay if canes like him

I understand the point about the 6th, but he’s a 4th liner making $3.25x2. People bag on Martinook for being a 4th liner we paid $1.8x3 to. I’d rather see us pay $1m to someone from the Wolves to play in the lineup next year.

Pearson is a poor 2nd liner - very good 3rd liner. He's definitely not a 4th liner.

Ottawa absolutely declines.
We already have Murray, Forsberg and Gustavsson on 1-way deals this season, and Sogaard, Merilainen and Mandolese in the AHL.

I think he could slot into the 3rd line as a cheaper and probably less effective Nino replacement but agree with you. Maybe we throw Rees or Drury in that slot and spend the extra 3m or so on Forsberg up front.

100% agree on Drury slotted next to Staal and Fast. I take $2.5m in cap space to use elsewhere when Drury as my fall back 10 times out of 10. If it doesn’t work, Martinook would be as good in that role as Pearson for the lesser amount.

Money needs to be pumped into the Top 6 and Top 4. Have too many good options to try in the bottom of the lineup.
