    Additional Details:
Similar to the Fiala deal. The difference is the Leafs' pick is 25, not 19, and Miller is older and won't come with an extension in place. But Canucks are also retaining. All in all, a fair deal for both teams.

Fiala was RFA, the Wild were forced to trade him because they don't have the cap space. But the Canucks are in a different position, they don't have to trade Miller, so his price will be higher.

I can assure you Vancouver would decline. Canucks don’t need Sandin. Rather just take New York’s offer of Chytil Lundkvist and a first

Much better offer for sure. Maybe they can resign Miller so they're willing to give up more. But for the Leafs he will be a pure rental.

Then they will trade him to another team with a better offer. Now that Fiala is off the table, Miller is probably the most valued top 6 forward on the trade market. There will be a bidding war for his services

There's nothing fair about that Miller trade as far as the Canucks are concerned. It's a lowball offer.

That still doesn't change the fact that he's over 30 and will be UFA after next season. So he's not all that attractive for contending teams that are tight to the cap. The Canucks have to walk a fine line and not demand multiple picks and prospects in a trade. They have to be reasonable.

I don't know if I agree with that perspective. The typical way the NHL normally goes is the 1st trade sets the precendence for the following trades so Fiala's trade should actually set the value for following trades. Fiala is 3 years younger that JT Miller, scored 33 goals compared to JT Miller's 32, last year he scored 20 goals to Miller's 15 and did it with 17:00 and 17:39 TOI where JT Miller had 21:00 TOI the last 2 seasons.

Don't get me wrong...I would love to have JT Miller on the Leafs but he overachieved this past season. I feel he is being a bit hyped like Kadri, Forsberg, etc who had career years this past season.

Ah brilliant. 29 years old is now considered over 30. What a time to be alive when we have time travel! Given that he’s just put up 99 points, I think every contending team would be on him. You wanna know something else? Unlike other top scorers this season, Miller has the cheap cheap cap hit of 5 million this next season. With retention, some team could be walking away with a 99 point player for 2.5 million dollars. You wanna tell me teams won’t be interested in that? Just because YOU want Miller for a discount, does not mean the Canucks should give him to you. Sandin is not needed and the 25 overall in this shallow draft is not appealing at all

You only pointed out goals in that stat. Kinda cherry picked if you asked me. Miller put up 99 points compared to Fiala’s 85 points. Prior to this season Fiala had a career high of 54 whereas Miller had a career high of 72. Yes Fiala is younger, but Minnesota is clearly pushed up against the cap and had no choice but to trade him. Just because one GM undersells, doesn’t mean another has to. In fact, since Fiala is no longer on the market, Miller will be even more sought after

Saying that a player has lower value because you think they might never reach their career high is just plain foolishness. No sane GM trades for a top player telling themself “this guy will never be as good again”. Teams pay for the players best version.

You're right. Miller at 2.5 will be the best value contract on any team this season. Maybe Colorado will go all in and trade for him to replace Kadri, or a team like the Wild to replace Fiala. The Canucks are in the driver's seat.

I guess I have never been impressed when stats are padded by assists including Kerfoot's 51 pts this year.

3 years ago JT Miller had 27 goals in 69 games compared to Fiala's 23 goals in 64 games. JT Miller was averaging just over 20 minutes a game where as Fiala did it only averaging 15:24 minutes a game. That's quite a huge difference in ice time added up over a season.

So are you suggesting that JT Miller is a career 1,23 ppg player and this past year wasn't his best production of his career?

Until the next season starts a team can be 10% over the cap ($8.25 MIL) so I don't think the Wild had a gun to their head yet. I believe they percieved that this was the best value they were going to get over the next 4 months and took the package now.

Anyway, I obviously don't know what GMs are thinking. We will see. If I am right I won't gloat if you promise not to either if you are right.

I will not gloat if I’m right. If I’m right and we get a haul, I will be happy. As for your stats, goals aren’t everything. Assists are important too. Obviously Miller isn’t a career point per game player but he clearly has been for the Canucks.

I can't see why Edmonton would trade two or three years (at least) of Jesse Puljujarvi for one year of Alex Kerfoot, especially when JP will probably not cost more than 125% of Kerfoot's cap hit for his next contract.
