Leafs - A Different Approach

Created by: Dannydanger
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 29, 2022
Published: Jun. 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Seems like management is going to switch up the bottom 6 and add some guys with a bit more sand paper to their game. Nico was signed to add some toughness to the lineup and it allows for a spot for the rookies to come in if they are playing well; Leafs could also trade for a better 4th line player closer to the deadline if no rookies can fill the position.

Is there potential for a deal surrounding Sandin and Necas? Not sure on the particulars.

Not sure how much it would actually cost to offload his contract but it needs to be done - picks, prospect, whatever.

TOR
  1. Lehner, Robin ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Again, not sure on the actual cost but if there's a rift between Lehner and VGK then maybe there's a deal on the table? Leafs would have two first round picks they could potentially offer, Robertson, etc. A third party would have to take the retained cap hit but I think paying for the retention would be worth it.
VGK
  1. Hirvonen, Roni
  2. Robertson, Nicholas
  3. 2022 1st round pick (TOR)

I don't think Mrazek or Detroit are a good fit for each other.
I think the trade is fair but might be better for a team like Chicago that can take a risk and wants picks to rebuild.
If Mrazek doesn't work out for them that's fine because it helps them tank for Bedard or another top prospect.

I know Toronto needs all of the cap space they can get but a buyout for Mrazek doesn't cost a lot per year.

There is no chance of a Necas Sandin swap happening. Canes don’t need to waste Necas as a trade chip for a 3LD, because Sandin won’t beat out either of Skjei or Slavin. Necas + for Nylander is one thing, but Sandin isn’t the answer.

Detroit declines, you may get another team to bite for that return but Detroit would need a 1st round pick to even think about it.

Pls no more crap to Detroit in exchange for picks that're more valuable themselves

Doubt it on Canes trade - Sandin just doesn’t make sense for us bc he’d be stuck on third pair. Really the only time it would make sense to move Necas for a D is if they don’t plan on bringing TDA back and need a 1RD replacement. Otherwise keep Necas or use him as a trade chip to upgrade top 6 scoring.

Doubt caps make that trade - he’s worth more to them than he’d get in a trade in fair value.

Vegas wouldn’t retain on Lehner. Maybe they move him if there’s a big rift but they’re not in a position to retain salary nor would they need to.

Too much for Holl - maybe a 5th for him.
