Quoting: Hammerwise
Hey, even as a PHI fan, I'd have to probably meet somewhere in the middle of the offer and your counter. The whole idea of the 5th OV is probably to take Nemec or Jiricek, a RD prospect, so asking for Barron probably offsets the JVR dump for Anderson. The orginal offer of 2 quality prospects (Kidney a high scoring 2nd rounder in the Q) and 21 yr old solid LD Norlinder does bridge the gap between anderson-JVR and 5th-26th, but probably not enough.
MTL would be crazy to substitute Barron, just to use the 5th overall to grab a different RD prospect. But Barron, Anderson, 26th for JVR and 5th? PHI almost takes that IMO.
If I'm MTL and I can build with Barron and 1 of Nemec/Jiricek I make the deal, if I'm Philly I look at that deal and ask a bit more, maybe a 2nd, but its a pretty fair offer
Anderson/JVR swap doesn’t do much for me, I like Anderson, he is still fast and great at getting breakaways, but we really don’t improve in production overall, in fact probably a lateral move. JVR usually scores as much or more than him.
All that part does is swap out a one year player at 7 million who should be getting 3 million for a 5 year deal at 5.5 who should be getting 3 million
Josh is going to slow down, he is going to be much worse in 3 years than JVR is now, but yes, he fits our system.
It’s a cap clear for Montreal and a 1-2 year good fit for Philly. Then it costs a first to dump him.
I’m the prospects are not bad… solid B- guys that really have some risk built in but may never make the Flyers roster due to current depth.
Removing Anderson from the deal in general is a major + imo, let them take JVR, we can sign Johnny G, we get a ready RHD who isn’t as good as Jiricek but will fill the gaps… the rest of deal is mainly filler
