Now resign their RFA Luukonen and you got the 1a/1b to develop the young kid at the NHL level. Veteran that can give you reliable minutes and can walk away from next summer and hand the reigns to the youth movement the Sabres are doing. #loveit

This takes Buffalo out of the competition for Husso and Campbell.

I'd argue there's 4 teams left - Chicago, Edmonton, New Jersey and Toronto.

I don't think so. Craig is likely to be the backup.

On the one hand, the price is right.
On the other hand, he's ancient compared to the average goalie and last year wasn't great.

Buffalo clearly isn't looking to compete for a playoff spot next year, but they hopefully will be improving.

I doubt it. They'll waste his potential if they only use him in AHL.

He played a few games in NHL last year and he did well.

I didn't say he'd only be in the AHL. He's had some major injury issues and is coming off one right now. They'll start him in Rochester. He'll probably come up during the season.

Thrusting UPL into a starting role with a game load of >50 games would be a bad idea. They're still gonna add a goalie in FA or in a trade.

A low-risk signing since Buffalo is way below the cap. This makes it look like Luukkonen is their man and Anderson will be a backup and mentor, but it doesn't preclude them from signing another goalie. They can afford to keep three, and after all the injuries they had last season, they might want to.

Depending on Thornton and Chara, Anderson is the last player drafted in the 90s. (He was originally drafted in 1999, then drafted again in 2001 after going unsigned).

I was hoping the Oilers would have signed him and have tandem with Mike Smith.

I liked you when you were a Burger.

I'm not so sure Chicago wants to make a goalie splash right now. They're trying to suck.

Well, Grampa’s back. Idk if he’ll be the backup or not. This doesn’t put Buffalo out of the run for Husso.

I would imagine part of this is compensating Anderson for overperforming his contract last year. It's a bit of an overpayment for a below average veteran backup who may decline further. With that said, in the context of the Sabres who are at the point of picking up LTIR contracts to exceed the cap floor, it isn't like it matters.

The goalie market is going to be be very difficult for a lot of teams this off seasons. The Sabres are rebuilding. If Anderson and the team (management, coaches, teammates) are a good fit, they might as well pay a bit extra to keep him around for another season.
